The PENTAX K10D digital SLR features an array of PENTAX innovations including 10.2 effective megapixels and a PENTAX-developed Shake Reduction (SR) system that effectively offers a 2.5 to 4 stop advantage for sharp, blur-free images even under difficult shooting conditions, such as macro and telephoto photography or low light settings without a flash. Also featured is a newly developed Pentax Real IMage Engine (PRIME) designed exclusively for PENTAX digital SLR cameras to produce well-balanced, true-to-life images. PENTAX also incorporated a new high performance 22-bit A/D converter to quickly transfer images with accurate color tones and richer gradation from the CCD to the imaging engine. The new Dust Removal (DR) system incorporating PENTAX-original Special Protect (SP) coating helps keep the CCD surface dust-free, and adds a shift mechanism to shake dust off the CCD. All this is housed in a dependable dust-proof, weather-resistant body construction featuring 72 seals throughout the camera to allow photographers to continue shooting even in dusty or rainy environments.

    The K10D has finally allowed Pentax to "catch up" with its competitors. It's a great camera with features not found on similar cameras of the other leading manufacturers. I'm still learning how to use some, and am amazed with what it can do. However, this is not a camera for a beginner. But if you're a serious semi-pro, or a professional who wants a good workhorse camera with 10 megapixels for less than $1000, I highly recommend it. I purchased it with three lenses to give me the versatility I need, plus I have some pentax lenses from my film cameras that I'll play with. I have shot Pentax cameras for several years and have always been satisfied with them which was my main motivation in buying the K10D. I have a BFA in photography and have taught classes at the university level, and had a small business selling photographic prints while serving in the Air Force as an officer and pilot. I'm now retired and travel during which I continue to enjoy photography.

    All my life I loved photography. Ever since I recieved a 110 camera and started snapping away, I knew that I loved creating and capturing images and moments in time that can't be replaced.

    I recieved my first Pentax camera, a Pentax ZX30, as a gift from one of my employers. Pentax is company known for their cameras and lens. My boss and the camera shop taught me about buying a camera and things to look for. At the time Pentax was one of the leaders in photography equipment.

    Over the last six years my original Pentax never let me down. Whether I was shooting portraits or weddings, my camera was able to handle it all. So when I thought of moving into digital photography the first company I considered was Pentax.

    When the time came to purchase my first digital camera it was an option between a Pentax K10D or an Olympus E500 digital camera. I admit at first I wanted to purchase the Olympus E500 due to the package offered. Two pockets full of options and two lens for about the same price as the body of the Pentax K10D.

    After long consideration and a talk with my husband I decided to stay with a brand I know and trust. Yes I might get more equipment for my buck, but will I get the same quality?

    I decided to buy this camera because of the quality of this product. It's reputation and my experience with Pentax made my choice simpler: I would build a Pentax Kit with my existing Pentax ZX 30 SLR.

    I love camera, options and lens. I love Pentax's ability to work with existing Pentax SLR lens. I love the fact that I can shoot in RAW format at the click of a button.

    I love the feel of the camera in my hands. This camera is solid. It has enough weight to let you know it's there but light enough to caputure photos on the fly. The grips make it easy to hold for big and small hands.

    I love the clarity of my photos. This camera comes with a lot of useful options that are all in camera.

    I love the fact that as you use this camera you learn more about how photography works. Novices will learn about apeature and shutter speeds and how adjusting this options will change the feel of the photo. Experience photographers will find new ways to create even more stunning masterpieces.


    Lastly, I love the simplicty of the design. I felt like I knew this camera already from working with a Pentax ZX30. I was able to start using it right out of the box (after charging it of course).

    So far I haven't found anything I don't like about this camera.
