Industry Reviews This text-reference provides a comprehensive treatment of all aspects of nephrology that relate to infants and children, introducing nephrology to the student and providing a sourcebook for the experienced physician, including internists, pediatricians, family physicians, urologists and nephrologists. This edition (first was 1978) emphasizes that developmental nephrology must provide the foundation for the training and practice of the pediatric nephrologist, particularly with regard to the care of low-birthweight and young infants. Ontogeny, the central theme of pediatric nephrology is, therefore, the subject of the greatly expanded first section, now comprising 12 chapters. Since the mechanisms of renal injury, the evaluation for disease, the manifestations of disease and insufficiency, and general principles of treatment are common to all renal disorders, they are considered collectively in Volume one. In Volume two, which deals with specific disorders, greater emphasis has been placed on neonatal, congenital, and heritable disorders, conditions that in many instances are unique to pediatrics.
