Pearl Harbor (DVD, 2001, Widescreen; 60th Anniversary Commemorative Edition)

I can't imagine what on Earth director Michael Bay had in mind when he made a dripping romance out of the most tragic WWII attack on us soil in the 20th century: Pearl Harbor. For one hour + his audience was forced to slumber through a sickening trist between two best buddy pilots and a Navy nurse. This didn't even make for decent television drama, let alone worthy of the silver screen. What a disappointment and waste of 3 hours!

There were a total of 10 minutes of actual visually performed patriotism led by Alec Baldwin, who must have been desperate to play in a role that was way beneath him. Ben Afflec plays an ego-maniac pilot who wants to fight for the British just to be in a plane he's so self-centered and eager for war.

What was noted as "Spectacular special effects vividly recreat[ing]the attack in devastating detail as bombs explode, torpedoes shoot through the water, and bullets fly, shaking tranquil Pearl Harbor to its core," is nothing but computer technology of the most rudimentary kind. It was nothing but human carnage. Perhaps this is a manly man's movie made for the likes of those who enjoy Braveheart, Titanic, The Flight of 93, The Passion of the Christ, 9/11, and other such ultra-boring block-buster drivel.

Definitely for those who don't care about history, and prefer their tragedies to be soft padded with straight sex and drippy romance. Not recomended for children due to overt heterosexual situations and graphic, if not brute, violence.

I was expecting more war type action/adventure with this movie, instead it was romance in the stone but only in the pearl harbor war days. A very huge disapointment.

They did try to be make the effects good, but even the effects made the movie fake and we actually turned it off during the middle part of it. The effects and story line was so bad, my Grandfather who actually fought in Pearl Harbor had a cow, ranted and was very upset on how they were portraying the war itself. Hubby said that if they left the romance out and had more of the action it probably would have been a decent movie.

It does make a good rental however, It is not for the whole family.This movie is also not for the movie collection buff must have. Otherwise, it was ho-hum nothing to be excited about movie, ok so they made a war movie, so what.

When I first got my hands on the long-anticipated Pearl Harbor movie, I was fully looking forward to seeing a historical account/drama much like that of perhaps Saving Private Ryan or even We Were Soldiers. But that is not the case at all. This movie is more of a romance; a somewhat love triangle if you will; between the three main characters of the movie. While the movie itself does have a few factual scenes, the majority of the movie is revolving around the romance going on between the three main characters. It's a great romance story ... if that's what you're looking for. But I would indeed look elsewhere if you're looking for more historical and/or war drama.

This movie should have been entitled "Have you had enough yet?". The character buildup in this one was outragous..and led you nowhere. I bought this movie for Historical action.. and instead got, well.. ROMANCE. The main theme (I should say DRAG) of this flick was not the attack on Pearl Harbor, but rather the ridiculously predictable love triangle consisting of two pilots and a nurse.
While slightly entertaining, if only to see Benny go down in flames, I wouldn't have paid full price if I'd known the full gist of romantic lunacy this one offered up in huge steaming piles.
If your into a long drawn out plot (if it can be called that) and very little else, get this, you'll love it. Otherwise move on with no regrets or just watch the second half.

I was in Hawaii during the filming of this movie, so I had high hopes for it. Unfortunately, it failed to deliver. It had awesome effects, but the side story was lacking. There is little emotional depth and the acting really is subpar. Could have been much better!

The filming and effects were great in the show, but it was a disappointment overall.
They started advertising this show over a year before it came out. The majority of the scenes in the ads were action shots. I went into it with very high expectations, but it didn't even meet my lowest hopes. This is a very looooong drawn-out romance story, with a few token action scenes thrown in to try to keep the attention of the guys. If you haven't seen it, expect a 2 hour romance movie, with about 30 minutes of action dispersed through it.

The romance isn't even very well done and the action scenes, though done very well with special effects, are not believable. They also found an all-to-convenient way to close out the love triangle and make it 'happily ever after'. Way too predictable there.

In my opinion, don't bother. Even if you are wanting to watch it for the romance movie, there are far better movies out there.

If you have never seen this movie, it is a must!! I bought a second copy for a friend, it was that good. Suspense, Romance and lots of action.

I am very disappointed, I have never received this item and it was a Christmas gift. Now I understand this person no longer sells on ebay, so I am just out and I had to go with a second choice for Christmas.

I liked the movie, had it in VHS tape, but wanted a DVD due to wear of the VHS tape. This worked perfectly & met my request.

INCREDIBLE movie! My mom loves it so much! I bought it as a gift for her and she was ecstatic. I have seen it before and while it's not a great factual movie of the events, it is still a very good movie.

I love pearl harbor in the first place. I tried buy in it the stores but it was too expensive or I couldnt find it. So it was great that i could buy it online in a very cheap price and in good shape. Thanks

This movie gets 5 stars both for the story and for the choice of cast. Anyone who watches this film will be moved and will never forget the joy, sadness, and pride they feel for the characters portraying the soldiers and their loved ones affected by the attack on Pearl Harbor.
This is a longer movie, but well worth the time it takes to watch it. A+++ flick.

I love this movie for both it's historical content as well as the love story behind it. The casting was excellent in my opinion. It is somewhat of a chick flick but there is also action scenes for the guys and then the historical content for those history buffs. It's a bit long but at least on one DVD it is better than having to switch tapes.

Just like the movie Titanic, this has a love story to it that is enjoyable. The 2 disk special edition is a good gift for anyone that loves the movie. The only drawback is the length of the movie, however, if it were shorter it may be a bit confusing with the storyline. I decided to buy this product as my best friend wanted it for Christmas. She had lent her copy out to someone, she doesn't remember who, and it got lost. Her list this year is short and thus I bought it.

I like the romantic story and the actors. I decided to buy it because I had it on a VHS and couldn't find it in my collection, so I decided to get a dvd.
Excellent story and historical reminiscing about WWII.

I already had the VHS of this movie, but I fell in love with watching movies on DVD so much that way I bought this DVD. A&E recently had this movie on, but they drop some scenes that I really like watching, and this was at a good price. So as I got it I watch it and its works just fine. Thank you very much.

I love this movie. Excellent story line including romance and one of our greatest American tragedies. I love how the movie was written and directed.

Pearl Harbor is a real live historical movie, it is really interesting with a great production, it shows you about the war, and the suvirving solders

bought it for a friend , decent prices she tried to find this dvd in the stores and was having problems thrilled that i found it on ebay.

explains alot about what happened in that time. and very well made. dislike how long it is but the story line is great so it does not feel that long keeps you into the action.great movie to own.
