Peace Child by Don Richardson (1975, Paperback, Illustrated)

I got this book as a present for my niece. She likes scary type books.
This is actually a book about missionaries that are the first to penetrate the interior of new guinea. The natives are very violent in lifestyle and ritual. It is a true story with scary real parts with an awesome message of how Christ desires all and the sacrifice of those that carry the message to places as this.
I was deeply moved to a higher calling.

First Don was one of my professors in Mission preparation. His full writing flows like a film complete with edits and flash backs everything but, the music. I know what the jungle can do; I barely survived my experience. Most of us will never see what Don an dhis wife saw. Read it, it is alot easier than going...maybe that is next.

Admittedly, even with my own danger life experience Jungle Expert, master diver, Infantry officer /Asia etc. I can not boast of being sure I could do what Don actually did without weapons etc. and 1,000 soldiers... my own version of how I would prefer to go. Cannibals and head hunters in one tribe not alot of human size hope. It was all God or it was stupid at the very best.

It is a good foundational book into missions and missionaries and a long look at ourselves and the brave missionaries who give all.

A friend recommended it to me. We are studying about the subject. A part of it was in a Kay Arthur study. I wanted to read more about it.

Read this first in the Reader's Digest condensed version -- then the complete version several times and we often purchase it for friends. It is one of the most incredible books you may ever read. Won't tell any more and ruin the plot .... :)

I was skeptical going into this book, but was impressed with the story (heavily guided by real events) and its implications towards missionary work in foreign cultures and the reality of God's tangible presence throughout the world. Definitely worthwhile and inspiring - you should read it! As a warning, there are a few pages near the beginning that are fairly intense and somewhat graphic, but this is the only place in the book that is so, and it serves a purpose. Furthermore, the context of this particular section prepares you for what is coming, and the more intense couple of pages can be skipped without losing any necessary plot development.

Terrific read about how finding the appropriate 'bridge' can lead the most reprehensible culture into a total transformation through the Truth of Christ.
