The Paul Lynde Halloween Special (DVD, 2007)

The Paul Lynde Halloween Special was shown in 1976 and contains one of the most unusual guest casts ever. The guests include: Tim Conway,Margaret Hamilton, Billie Hayes,Florence Henderson,Donny and Marie Osmond,Billy Barty,and rock group Kiss. This special is usually sought out by Paul Lynde fans or Kiss Fans-it was there first television apperance. Since I'm not a Kiss fan-I'll let another reviewer talk about them. It's fun to see the outrageous Lynde with Margaret Hamilton and Billie Hayes-who was Witchiepoo in H. R. Pufnstuf. Brady Bunch fans may enjoy seeing Florence Henderson singing 'That old black magic'--I'm not sure. And Donny and Marie are an aquired taste-luckily their apperance is brief. But it is a fun show!

Let me say right off that anyone who is particular over picture quality wont be to happy with this DVD. The producers have done a remarkable job with the tape they had to work with. The Producers tell you up front that the film used to produce this DVD is believed to be the only one in existence and it is 30 plus years old, it is remarkable that the entire show is intact, and the worst part is the color is not real sharp and at times appears a little faded but don't let this stop the Paul Lynde fan from purchasing this DVD.

Get ready to be transported way way back in time to the days of bell bottoms, disco, and CB radios. The opening skit finds Paul Lynde and his houskeeper (Margaret Hamilton Wizard Of OZ) visiting Margaret's sister (Billie Poo, HR Puffinstuff) who both turn out to be witches. They turn Paul into a CB radio talking Big Rig Truck Driver with side kick Tim Conway (Carol Burnett Show), after that disaster Paul then finds himself becoming the worlds greatest lover with Florence Henderson (Brady Bunch) swooning for his Kisses. Can you imagine Paul Lynde as a truck driver much less a lover?

The icing on the cake is three loud energetic powerful songs preformed by KISS, big hair, make up, fire, smoke, and explosions plus some interaction with Paul makes the show great! after the show DVD extras include a photo album with many photos of Paul, his family & friends plus a great audio interview with Peter Marshall from Hollywood Squares. A very in depth revealing interview that shares lots of things about Paul Lynde's personal life off camera.

This DVD is 50 minutes of comedy but more than that it is a time capsule of what America was watching in prime time long ago. I applaud the preservation efforts by people who find it important to save these America treasures and I am equally thrilled to have a copy of this program for my own collection of Paul Lynde.

Paul Lynde was a very entertaining comic [Bewitched; Hollywood Squares], with a unique stlye of comedy. This special is a wonderful opportunity to again see his comic presentation caught on his only tv special.
Along with this are guest appearances, such as Kiss (super WOW for any Kiss fans) and others equally entertaining to see from "way back when".
I very much enjoyed this "out of the archives" tv special from the '70's. My showing this dvd to others have prompted them to also purchase the same. If you like vintage comedy and entertainment, check this one out. I personally rate this as Very Good. Enjoy.

If Halloween is the "Gay Holiday" then this DVD is the one for you. Long thought lost this tv special features the unlikely mixing of outrageous Paul Lynde, with funny man Tim Conway, wicked witch Margaret Hamilton, songstress Florence Henderson and rockers Kiss in their 1st prime time tv appearance. The fast moving, typically Paul Lynde humor matches with each of the guests and gives you a weird Halloween happening. Who else but Paul could blend this cast together? It's not the greatest tv special ever, but with Paul Lynde leading the way it certainly is special, fun and watchable. They don't make em like this anymore so give it a try.
