I have enjoyed this book very much. I believe it is out of print and am fortunate to have found it. I have started quilting after many years and I found this book suggested in an old book I had previously purchased. It is in perfect condition. It is geared toward the beginner as well as the expert.

Pattern Drafting Made Easy for Quilting or Carpentry!
Review created: 08/02/07

Whether you quilt, weave, embroider, make stained glass, mosaics or marquetry, this book will take the math and mystery out of drafting.
This is a classic book from 1979 for quilters, but also can benefit anyone who needs to copy, adapt, reduce, enlarge or create any geometric pattern, including rectangles and ovals!

I have this and several of Jinny's later books in my quilting library, and refer to it often when I'm in the mood to create something totally from scratch.

It's also a great resource when I find a pattern I want to adapt or resize to my own vision. It's hefty at 200 pages, well indexed, and well ordered. It is presented classroom style, with clear illustrations and directions, step by step, moving to more and more advanced work as the book progresses. If you stick with this book to the end, you'll be completely confident at tackling any drafting problem.

Jinny's means for analyzing a design can certainly be applied to any of the electronic drafting programs out there today - like Electric Quilt, or Quilt Pro, and will certainly help you understand patterns in those programs.

Don't be put off by Jinny's sophistication in writing. You may from time to time think you are reading something written by Martha Stewart. But the results make this a great book for anyone who wants to draft a pattern. It truly is a classic for any quiltmaker.
