David Lean's Final Film
Not quite in the same league with Lawrence of Arabia, Bridge on the River Kwai, or Great Expectations, this beautifully shot and acted adaptation of E. M. Forster's novel suffers a bit because of the confusing imagery surrounding the story's pivotal event. Nevertheless, it is every bit as intelligent and technically beautiful as Lean's best work, and the performances of Dame Peggy Ashcroft as Mrs. Moore and Victor Bannerjee as Dr. Aziz are unforgettable.
