Must read for every Grand Knight

Great historical account of how the Knights of Columbus was formed through the story of Father Michael J. McGivney.

It is a story about a man of action that has true compassion for his parish. He wanted to find a way to help immigrant families who were left destitute when the male income earner suddenly dies.

His dream was the Knights of Columbus, an organization that would help fellow members and their families in their time of need.

His dream has grown into one of largest fraternal organizations in the United States today with members who raise millions of dollars yearly to support people in need.

I was pleasantly suprised at how interesting this book was and how easy to read - You will not get bogged down with boring details.

Parish Priest paints a vivid picture of American Catholic life during the turn of the 20th century by telling the inspirational story of one parish priest: Michael McGivney. As a memeber of the knights of columbus, learning of the life of the founder of this great organization will truly inspire all who hold the Catholic faith dear. Highly recommend to all.

This made an extremely important gift of the season to a husband that just became a Knight in shining armour. He is learning HOW important it is to care for a family; but, since he always has been the best care giver, let me not confuse anyone reading this review. He maybe has not ever known real fatherly love since his father passed on when he was at an impressionable age. He is learning how to be loved, deeper love for others and how to not just be served. We are ALL here as equals with different positions, titles and power. So the most important people in a life are the ones that raise and teach the children HOW to LOVE. One of the caregivers in "our" home ask for this book for Christmas. By buying it on ebay, it was inexpensive, easy to grasp, since I didn't have to leave home to purchase. Once read, no doubt, this story will be the BEST book anyone could ever read, if you want to know the power of Love!! Happy reading!

Excellent History of a Great Man and his Times

I have just finished reading this book. I couldn't put it down. It shows what an ordinary man can accomplish in extraordinary times. It isn't a self-glorifying history of the Knights of Columbus, but rather what one man had to overcome during a less tolerant time in American history.

I higly recommend this book.

  Parish Priest

I was interested in learning the origins of an organization to which I belong, The Knights of Columbus.
This biography of Fr Michael McGiveny's short life is descriptive of growing pains that existed in the Catholic Church mid 19th century in the New England area.
This Priest waded through all of the problems with astounding success dedicating every breathing moment of his life to his vocation.
It is a fast read with some happy parts and other heart wrenching parts.
I recommend it for all Kof C members as it has given me a much better perspective of the whole organization.
