Parachutes by Coldplay (2000)
In Chris Martin's own words this debut album is, "us plagiarising Radio Head." It has a soul of its own though that permeates good song writing, arrangement, singing even, it translates. his album's mellow sometimes murky undertones enhance the highlights of songs like Shiver, Yellow, and Everything's Not Lost. Somewhere in between these are the simple, timeless songwriters-songs that make so much from minimilized guitas and vocals. Listen for the hidden track at the end, a favorite on the album. This one CD saw Coldplay rise from obscurity to sharing a bill with U2 where Bono reworked lines from Yellow into the reprise of his own.
