Rest assured, West Coast gangsta supreme Mack 10 is not the kind of guy you'd want delivering your paper every morning. PAPER ROUTE finds Mack 10 in peak form, firing off uncompromising rhymes that deal with the most unseemly realities of the streets, in no uncertain terms.
The album's opening cut "From Tha Streetz" serves as a kind of mission statement for Mack 10, proudly proclaiming his allegiance to the streets. Unlike some other gangsta rappers, who maintain some degree of ambivalence about the "thug life," Mack 10 seems to revel in it. There's an almost joyous (or at the very least, cathartic) air to his descriptions of pimping ("Pimp or Die"), violence ("Nobody"), and downright badass attitude ("Keep it Gangsta"). Naturally, it doesn't hurt that his raps are backed by propulsive, catchy beats that provide valuable momentum throughout the rough ride that is PAPER ROUTE.
