This is one of the best digital camcorders I've ever used. I decided to buy this 3CCD marvel after the replacement model ( PV-GS300 )wasn't as good as the camera it was replacing. Panasonic's 3CCD system coupled with a Lecia Dicomar lens provides a beautiful color representation with stunning clarity. The camera also boasts a 10X optical zoom and optical image stabilization which is a very nice feature. It also has a zoom microphone and 12 and 16 bit audio modes which are good features also. Also the built in digital camera feature is also a nice feature and works nicely. Another stand out feature of the GS250 is it's manual operation. It has a manual focus ring and other manual setting that are very useful if you know how to use them. The only con of the GS250 is it's night performance which isn't that good due to it's relatively small CCD's. At night you lose some of the color representation and the night features don't help alot. Overall this is magnificent camera that does a very good job! So if your in the market look into the Panasonic PV-GS250!

I will never buy another thing from Ebay...ever!!! I paid for this camera and never received it. Paypal reimbursed me $169 and the seller is still out there selling the fictional camera for $700!!! Paypal said they would try to collect whatever they could but that effort was really just the end of the story.

Rewarded best camcorder of the year 2005 in it's priceclass. Thats why I purchased it and I'm not dissapointed. Easy to use, but with lots of features when you start exploring the camcorders possibilities.
Spent a lot of time reading about different camcorders, and i read that the joystick control on Panasonic camcorders where difficult to use. Couldnt be further from the truth. The person who wrote that test must have chubby fingers.
Everything has been to my expectations.
Optical image stabilization perfect. A must if you can afford it. Have compared with other expensive camcorders, and the NV(PV)-GS250 is by far the best.
You will propably get better nightvision on a Canon, but that does not outweight other features.
Will purchase wideangle later on.
The camera for stills is easy to use. Have many options, excellent adjustable (or automatic) flash and take beatiful pics, but is only 3.1 Mpix. Though still more than most camcorders today.

Bought UV and PL filter(So should you on any camcorder you buy. They're cheap when ordered from chinaarts). Gives you better colours in special light conditions. Bought it from "chinaarts" on ebay.com - tax and VAT free. Best price on camcorder, batteries, filters and SD card. Fast shipping and honest dealer. Have purchased several times from this shop.

I love this multicam. The first thing you notice is it's small featherweight get it is sturdy. Controls are well marked. The program for editing video is easy to use. the digital camera produces amazing pictures outside and in natural light, however adjustments do need to be made for indoors. The viewer screen helps. The video captures nicely both inside and outdoors. I am very happy with my purchase which I bought based on others reviews of it.

This is actually my second unit. My husband and I video tape Masquerade competitions (among other things) and were quite happy with our first of these cameras. But editing multi-camera events with different brands/models of cameras was awkward, so we wanted to get another to match our first.

We did look at the newer models (GS350), and found that some of the functionality of the GS250 was actually missing. We do use the remote control, the slave output (for the green room monitor), etc. We also consider the ability to "hot swap" tapes with a top-loading camera to be *crucial* -- it's the single reason we didn't buy a Sony, because all of their models require you to take the camera off the tripod mounting to change the tape.

In addition to the top-loading feature, I was quite happy with the lenses (it's hard to go wrong with a Leica lens).

The camera works well at distance and in low light situations. The audio recording is also quite good.

Overall, I'm happy I bought the first one, and happier I now have a second.

  Panasonic PV-GS250 Mini-DV Camcorder
Review created: 05/02/08
by:

This is a well-rounded advanced amature Mini-DV camcorder. It's got some good qualities that make it stand out from the typical consumer grade camcorders. It's been around for a couple years and has come down from a price at introduction of about $1000, and as of this writing (5/08) can be had for $350. The following are some of the pro's and con's of the camera in my opinion. I'm more of a film camera guy and this has been my second camcorder purchase; my first was a consumer level Samsung MiniDV model from several years ago.

Pros:
- Close focusing ability is pretty good; you can retain focus almost until your subject hits the housing of the lens.
- Field of view is wider than most camcorders at the wide end of things.
- 3ccd sensor gives you much better color fidelity especially when you've got good light.
- Image Stabilization! This is really nice, and once you've used a camera with IS, you'll never want to go back to not having it.
- I find the ergonomics and intuitiveness of use to be pretty good.

Cons:
- Low light performance is adequate but not stellar. You'll want a camcorder with a physically larger sensor than this one's 1/6" sensors for really low light performance.
- Not much optical telephoto range. Depending on your filming style and subjects you may or may not care about this.
- It is a MiniDV camera, so the media is obviously a little less convenient than DVD or memory card camcorders.
- Don't even bother with still images.

In short, I'd recommend it because it provides the best video quality at its price point in a handy and intuitive package.
