This is my second Panasonic DVD recorder. The first one is still going strong after two years of hard work. I bought this model for it's extra features like ATSC tuner instead of just NTSC, and although I don't use VHS much any more, I liked the idea of having one unit for both tape and disc. Both my old and the new model record beautifully in four hour mode which is a real plus. I primarily record Cable TV shows on write-once discs which cost under 30 cents. If I know I won't add the show to my collection, I use RW discs. RW discs won't work in my car's DVD player, but the -R discs are perfect. The files created by the recorder are un-encrypted VOB files which work well in my computer and can be converted to DIVX easily for playing on my PMP.
The output from the unit is component video. It does not have HDMI, so I have to use another cable for digital audio, not a big problem. This model doesn't read SD cards. Obviously the future will be HD, but since there is no reasonably priced HD DVD recorder yet available, this model is the next best thing.

  DMR-EZ37 is a good buy!

I needed a machine to copy VHS tapes to DVD's. The DMR-EZ37VS gives you this and a whole lot more. It records and plays almost any format. The time slip recording function allows you start recording (to DVD) and later watch the recording from the beginning while still recording. Both DVD and VHS recordings are excellent. The 2x LP Horizontal Resolution recording really does improve output picture quality. After a month of use I have no performance issues.

The only reason it didn't get an excellent rating was the poor instruction manual that it has. Because it has so many functions, it is not easy to learn to use all of the functions. It takes a while to read the manual and play with the individual functions to fully use the machine. Overall a really good machine.

Delivery was suppose to be 7 days, took over 2 weeks. E-mailed them 3 or 4 times and after 10 days they finally answered and said they sold too many and mine was back ordered. I worked for days trying to get it to work. Had to call Panasonic direct. Recorder was not functioning correctly, has to be repaired. Still waiting over a week once again to hear from vendor as to whether to send it back to them, back to Panasonic or drive to Phoenix to get repaired. Not one of my better deals through e-Bay. This has been on going for a month and a half.

  Panasonic DVD/VHS Recorder/Player DMR-EZ37VS
Review created: 12/11/07

Pros: Picture enhanced remarkably eg. Antenna reception as good as Dish.
Menus on the whole easy to navigate.
Cons: Not able to open and close DVD Tray or Eject VHS by using the Remote.
Not able to record back to back programs. Have to select programs with
at least an hour difference in scheduled broadcast time. At least on my
purchased equipment.
Grid for selecting alphabet et al to name disk is not as user friendly as
other recorders that I have had eg RCA had a real great set up.
Over all I would purchase this product again and I highly recommend it with the suggestion that the Pros out-weigh the Cons Significantly!

This recorder is a great recorder for the price. The results are excellent on any disk format. My only complaint is, I have an earlier Panasonic model very similar to this, and they removed the Title storing feature, which I use almost daily on my older unit. Other than that, it's easy to use and provides great results for backing up old VHS ! The one improvement over the older model is it's a lot easier to edit out commercials.

I think Panasonic really got their act together on this model. The ATSC tuner
worked better than my 200.00 converter, it found the digital channels and worked
very well. The unit is easy to use and is well made. I can't find any dislikes about it at this time.

I bought it for the features it had. What I don't like about it is that the color is really bad when you go from the player to the TV. Also, the sound from the player comes through to the satelite program when you leave the DVD/VCR player on. The player is also very slow.

I bought this product for all of its fine features. The price was right. The shipping was prompt. The machine is possessed by demons! It turns itself off and on, records whenever it wants. Now I have a piece of trash that needs repairs. I knew it was reconditioned but I did not buy the warranty because all of my old vcrs lasted years without problems.

GOOD PRODUCT SO FAR AT TWO MONTHS AND STILL GOING
Review created: 02/25/08

PURCHASED A REMANUFACTURED DVD/VHS RECORDER AND PURCHASED A SQUARE D TWO YEAR WARRANTY FOR $150 TOTAL. AFTER USING FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS, PRODUCT SEEMS TO BE WORING FINE, BUT ONCE HAD TROUBLE WITH THE FLEXIBLE RECORDING MODE, IN THAT IT DIDN'T RECORD IN THE MODE IT WAS SET TO RECORD IN. HAD IT SET IN LP BUT IT RECORED IN SP WHICH CUT MY PROGRAM SHORT.
I HAVE HAD OTHER PANASONIC DVD RECORDERS AND ALTHOUGH THEY BOTH POOPED OUT ON ME, I STILL GOT NEARLY 1000 BURNT DVDS OUT OF THEM EACH. THIS ONE IS MAKING FUNNY NOISES, BUT I DO HAVE A TWO YEAR WARRANTY THAT COST AROUND $20, SO I DON'T FEEL TOO WORRIED IF IT POOPS OUT TOO SOON.

  Panasonic DMR-EZ37VS DVD-VCR Recorder
Review created: 02/24/08

Tried copying 2 VCR tapes onto one DVD and it froze up and had to reset it. Perhaps operator error? That is the only trouble I have had so far. I do have to keep the owners manual handy, as I can't always remember how to do some features. Otherwise, it has been working great. If anything, DVD copies from VHS looks BETTER than the VHS did. Have copied TV onto DVD-RAM and works great. Both players have worked flawlessly. There are very few DVD-VCR recorders with good reviews. This one had pretty good reviews and that was the deciding factor to buy this model. I would recommend this model to anyone.

  Panasonic DMR Combo

This machine has a digital tuner which enabled me to hook it up to a 1986 Sony Profeel TV and have it perform like a new TV. The Profeel's tuner was a
seperate component that finally failed and was too old to find parts for repair.
What was left was essentially a large monitor but using the Panasonic DMR it now is up-to-date. Also, Panasonic's customer support was exceptional in helping me set it up. They were available, knowledgable and patient. And the price was right.

  OUTSTANDING PRODUCT!

We love this dvd recorder/vcr combo. I am able to record live tv,transfer vhs to dvd, and even record from my dv camcorder with editing ability. Have only had it for a few weeks, but have done a ton of playing around with it. My only complaint so far is that when I run my cable thru it, it interferes with the digital signal if I am recording from vhs to dvd and trying to watch tv at the same time.

It's the first dvd recorder I have owned and so far, it is worth the money! I did a lot of research before deciding on which one to get. This one has had the best reviews out of all of them.

  Nice DVD-VCR with Digital Tuner
Review created: 01/10/08
by:
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The panasonic 37v is a quality dvd recorder and player. The reason to buy this is if you want a good quality dvd recorder for recording television at a reasonable price. Note this dvd recorder can receive all ota tv channels within your area depending on your antennae and reception, but it is not an hd tuner, and its output is limited, only 480i for tv, and 480i or 480p for dvd.

The built in over the air digital tuner is good quality, but has a 1-3 second latency when changing channels. For the money, it is a good product. The programming and tuning interface is pretty good, remote is also good.

What it lacks, this dvd recorder would be better if it had HDMI, and co-ax audio output. And for the same price you would do better to purchase an upscaling dvd player or save your money up for a blu-ray dvd prayer.

This product was purchased becuase it has an ATSC tuner, and records between VHS and DVD. It receives both analog and digital signals and transforms them to my analog television. It does everything the book says it will do, however you must read the book slowly and methodically to comprehend its contents.

It has taken longer than I would like to learn how to do the simple tasks of recording television programs to either VHS or DVD, and copying from VHS to DVD.

I like the many DVD formats it recognizes. Above all else, I'm convinced I got it at a great price!

My greatest conccern is a statement in the operating instructions which says, "If you repeatedly insert discs or turn the unit on and off aobut 50 times or more, the recording or editing of DVD-R, DVD-R DL, DVD-RW (DVD-Video format), +R, +R DL, or DVD_RW )DVD Video Recording format) discs may be disabled."
I wonder how that will affect the usefulness of the unit in the long run.

I figured that an unfinalized dvd from one panasonic would play on another panasonic burner. I was correct!! What this unit does is complicate and therefore the instructions are complicated. I believe the instructions make an honest effort to explain and the answers are there.
Transforming a vcr tape to dvd worked simply and well.

  best dvd/vcr recorder on market

1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

i have owned a sony dvd/vcr recorder in the past and thought it was OK, but then i purchased on e-bay this panasonic dvd/vcr recorder and was amazed at how much better the recording quality is. also the amazing thing about this unit is the ACCU-TUNE tuner. most new units now days don't have a tuner, this item has a tuner that excepts both digital and analog and processes them automatically. so in 2009 when all analog signals are dropped you don't have to worry about it, and for your digital signal you don't need a box. i haven't seen this on any unit and it is great. as a matter of fact i am going to find another one on e-bay for my lake house.

THE DVD/VCR COMBO WORKS GREAT , BUT THE INSTRUCTIONS ARE COMPOSED BY A TECH. THE SETUP SKIPS STEPS AND UNLESS YOU ARE TECH SAVVY, YOU WILL HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE INITIAL SETUP AND PROGRAMMING USING THE INSTRUCTIONS.

ONCE YOU HAVE DETERMINED THE CORRECT PROCEDURE THROUGH TRIAL AND ERROR, THIS IS A GREAT MACHINE. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE PREVIOUS EXPIRENCE WITH PROGRAMMING AND SET UP OF A VCE/DVD R-RW, YOU WILL HAVE TO SPEND A LOT OF TIME ON THE PHONE TO CUSTOMER SERVICE

  Excellent recorder

I like the recorder, however there were a few glitches. I had to contact panasonic customer service, the recorder would only record one hour and shut off, they helped by sending an upgraded disc, plus I was able to download it from their website which fixed the problem. I do wish I had purchased the EZ47 that has the slot for the SD card. The instruction manual is not user friendly, but they have excellent customer service. Overall, the machine is a great choice and records fantastically. The seller was good to do business with also. Shipping was a little slow, but thats the US postal service!!

  DVD recorder/ VCR combo
Review created: 04/07/08
by:
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I bought this machine because I have alot of VHS tapes of movies, and it is getting hard to find VCRs. So I thought I could record them on DVDs. Some machines advertized you could do this, so after checking reviews and ratings I looked for this machine. A Panasonic combo that is ranked high in dependbilty.
When I recieved this one I read thru the manual and then tried to record one of my movies. Only it wouldn't record, so back to the book. I found out that most movies, especially ones purchase from a rental store are protected so they can't be recorded. Other than my main purpose of recording, this has been a great machine, It is easy to use, plays both DVD's and VHS tapes, and records off of the TV. It also has the bonus of giving me digital TV as I don't have have cable. So over all I am glad I bought this combo.
