Summary
Wifi, Bluetooth and 128 Meg memory. NVFS means that battery can go to zero and you lose nothing. Includes docs2go which handles native word, excel and powerpoint files very well. It's web, email and office document capabilities along with its relative stability and battery life make the TX the closest PDA yet to a laptop replacement. Feels thin and light. Gets a bit warm with extended wifi usage, but not hot. TCPMP freeware video player performs well on this unit. Overall the best Palmos PDA to date.

SPECS: Uses Graffiti 2, Includes Contacts, Calendar, Memos, Todos and Notepad. SD slot handles larger sizes. Users have reported using 2 gig cards with no problem. Includes Media, which can play a limited number of video formats. Includes pocket tunes. Mono speaker, stereo headphone jack. Same size as PalmOne T5, so many cases, chargers, cradles and other accessories are already available. Extras on cd include Wifile LT to grab files from network shared drives, and Webster's dictionary in ereader format. The built-in calculator now sports support for scientific, financial and hex functions.

PROS: Bright, high quality 320 x 480 screen. Wifi setup is simple and intuitive, yet support is present for WEP and WPA. Very good battery life. Wifi hotsync rocks. More stable than Lifedrive. Palm PIM applications are simple, reliable and best in class. Many users report rock-solid stability with the TX.

CONS: Does not come with cradle. No camera, No microphone, No vibrating alarm and no power LED. Does not have built-in drive mode support. Some users have complained about the power switch. Some users have reported stability issues related to Blazer and Versamail. Users have reported stability issues with 3rd party apps, especially those not updated recently.

Recommendations: mobile-stream.com's homewithfind.prc gets you a home icon that also has find and most recent app features. Backupman saves your data to sd card for crash-recovery in the field. Palmpdf reads native adobe pdfs. Boxwave screen protector is pricey but worth it. Avoid apps which are not known to be compatible with TX. Follow Palm's recommended upgrade procedure if you are moving to the TX from another Palm OS PDA.

Very nice PDA, full featured and great display

I had an older generation Palm, and didn't care much for it. I currently have a Treo 600 and it works pretty well. But the T/X is simply amazing, and I have no complaints so far.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for a nursing student and the T/X was definitely the way to go. It has plenty of memory to run the applications that come installed on the internal flash drive (only the T5 and LifeDrive have more), and it has the 5.4 Garnet operating system as well which is the best Palm has to offer at this time.

The display is large, bright, and shows colors vibrantly. You can "flip" the screen to display horizontally or vertically. The T/X is Bluetooth compatible, and it has a built-in WI-FI card so you can browse the internet anywhere you can pick up a wireless signal.

The T/X comes loaded out with pre-installed software such as PowerPoint and Excel, as well as MS Word. You can also synch it with Outlook on another computer so you can get your email. An SD card expansion slot lets you add tons of extra memory for loading additional software applications. This comes in handy for nursing students because they can put all their drug guides and medical charts on their Palm, and it's all they have to carry.

If you're in the market for a nice handheld organizer that won't break the bank, check out Palm's T/X. It offers a great blend of affordability and functionality.

All the basics and a little more for a great price

It doesn't have the most cutting edge, up-to-the-minute new toys, of course, but it's got a good processor, a clear color screen, WiFi, and a huge viewscreen with easy clicks to turn the display horizontal or vertical. That's all I need!

This unit was purchased after a search was done for PDAs well suited for nurses. My wife needed one for easy reference as she is a life flight nurse and needs a lot of info at her finger tips. The screen is easy to read and easy to use. Downloading is easy once you get past the learning curve. Many programs are written with this device in mind and available on the net for download. All in all, she is pleased with it and I'm happy with the deal we got here on eBay.

Holds a ton of information and pictures, has a place for a SD Card which can hold even more info and pictures.

Assists in organization, I purchased mine to use for work. It had a lot of medical books installed which I use almost every day.

Better than carrying a lot of books, address book, calender, and photo album. Plus I have games on it which is fantastic for when you are waiting at the dr office, license branch, etc. Makes time go bye much faster.

Holds charge a long time. Has a wall charger or you can charge it from the computer using the usb cord.

I recently decided to upgrade my PDA. My old Sony Clie' had seen better days and was pretty short on memory. I had one of the original Palm IIIc back in the day and liked it pretty well. I have two co-workers who have the Palm T/X and had the opportunity to test drive them before I bought one. Outstanding color and resolution! Plus, it holds and runs all my medical programs without any difficulty. If you need a PDA for work or scheduling, this is the PDA for you.

  Wonderful and handy

I love the compact design, it's ease of use, and it's handiness. I am a LPN who is almost finished with my RN and with this gadget and the software I've put on it I no longer have to haul around 3 books at the clinical site. I have everything I need at my fingertips. The wireless internet allows me to always have the latest information also. I am able to check for updates anywhere there's a connection for me to link up to. Not to mention that it's perfect for me to keep up on the latest scores too! I also have some games loaded on it for my down time. Love the bright, vibrant colored screen and the ability to fully expand the memory to bring along all of my photos to share. Best of the best in one unit. It was my first purchase of this nature so I considered it an investment and did my homework before I shelled out the cash for it. Well worth the money.

I need this for a Geocaching event and worried I wouldn't get it in time. It arrived a day before I was told and was able to load it up and be ready. It was missing it's stylus but I hardly use them anyway.

I sure could have used this while I was in business and not after retirement. But Oh well, it sure is a great way to keep information and contacts all in the same pocket. It is all I hoped it would be and more. Thank you for a great product. It really works great and has a real clear screen and easy operation too. I would recomend this to others, especially those of you in a customer sales and service territory. Great for future appointments and meeting and reminders of promises given. This is a great way to do business without having to write down your notes.I do wished it came with an extra SD memory card and a hard case to protect it.Some screen savers would also be helpful.

I think this is as close to the perfect PDA as Palm has come so far. Huge, bright and high definition screen, WiFi & Bluetooth, SD slot now carrying 4G of memory, Accessory slot for GPS or WiFi....wait one, it's already on-board! Good battery life, yet still manages to make a nest in my shirtpocket.
The downside? Hmmmmm. I'll work on that for a few months.

  Palm T/X

This is my second PDA in 6 years. I'm very impressed with the changes made since my last one. The T/X is slim, has a huge screen, easy to use and has great features. I love being able to use the Wi-Fi (my personal favorite option) and connecting to my computer (or printer) via bluetooth is great - no looking for cables to hook up, etc. I do wish it came with a better case, what they send in the box is useless. I would definately buy this same model again if I had a 'do over'.

  7 years between machines

I owned a Palm IIIxe for over 7 years. When it finally became unusuable, I shopped for a replacement. I found the Palm TX and have been thrilled with it. It gives me the familiarity with the Palm OS, then adds a bunch of new features. It is fast with a great screen. The icing on the cake is WiFi! It's great to be able to quickly check my email or the news without having to turn on a PC.
And of course, I got a great deal on eBay.

I bought a tx in november. i am now on my second one and Palm wanted a credit card # to try and charge me for the technical charge for the repair. I will not have another palm product in my life time. My experience with Palm products is that they are nothing but JUNK.

Unhappy in Prince Rupert

Palm TX what a great tool
Review created: 03/27/08

1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My first computer was a Sinclair and my first portable was the Tandy 100. I then got an Atari Portfolio (famously used in Terminator 2). Then three generations of Palms along with lots of desktop Macs and PCs. So when I bought the TX on Ebay for $200 with lots of accessories, I was expecting a basic productivity tool and didn't expect to get as excited about it as I did. But after a couple of months with the TX and a number of plane rides and cross country trips, it has been just a joy. The wide screen with keyboard has made this a true pocket pc. Toronto is full of free wireless coffee shops, so sitting down to a latte and brioche on a tiny cafe table, I am attached to the world. I don't have a GPS but using Google Earth in New York was a gas. I really like the points of interest for finding a restaurant or an art gallery. What is really neat is the quick web browser and the versamail. Being a cheap Irish-Scot (like to drink, don't like to pay for it). I have to admit that the TX has been one of the lowest cost productivity tool I have owned. I actually can buy licensed software like Quickoffice and Kinoma for less than a good meal and night at the Rex. The SD card holds videos of my Nova Scotia mom and dad running around the house and lots of pictures and movies and the like. Even when I need to do a reset, which isn't that often. this is a very simple act.

I just got the VOIP mic and headphone attachment and am really looking forward to making some long distant calls for free. After 30 years being involved with technology, I am way past the technolust, I just want a simple intuitive tool that acts like a friend or a smart pet.

My old Tandy 100 with its 300baud modem, word processor, 8k of memory was a brilliant tablet, that is also one of Bill Gates best efforts. The Palm TX is right up there as a wonderful intelligent tool that incorporates so many features packed into a portable shell. I know its getting long in the tooth, but I will be very happy using the TX until the next really cool multifunction portable tool comes along. So maybe it might be another 20 years, but as of right now, I am a pretty happy camper with the TX.
