I’ve been using the Tungsten E for several months now, and though I’ve passed it on to a family member in favor of a BlackBerry, I thought it was such a great PDA that it was worth writing a review about. More than anything, it’s the best value out there for a feature-rich PDA, and since there are a lot of these Tungsten's on eBay it won’t be hard to find a good deal.
The Tungsten E delivers a lot of familiar Palm OS features, and they’re packaged in a great form factor. My favorite feature is the awesome, super-sharp color screen. The backlight is powerful and the color and contrast is excellent, making reading notes, appointments, and even Office documents easy on the eyes. The portion below the screen will be familiar to Palm users – you have the standard application buttons and handwriting area. The navigator is a bit clunky, but works just fine.
Other features include a digital card slot, infrared, and an audio jack (though I’ve never actually used this feature). There is a nice, weighted stylus made of metal that slides right into a small silo on the right edge.
There are two complaints I have about the Tungsten E – one is a minor issue and the other is more significant.
The first one is purely cosmetic. Even though there is flip cover for the screen, there is no protection for the back of the PDA and thus it tends to attract a lot of scratches. I’ve never dropped it, but even normal wear-and-tear (e.g., carrying it in my pocket with keys or loose change) results in surface scratches. If you buy this PDA I would finding a simple cover (there is a huge selection on eBay).
The second issue is battery life – while it’s not horrible, it’s not great either. For users that are constantly connected and are used to charging devices like your cell phone or Bluetooth headsets, this is no big deal since you just make it part of your daily routine. However, if you happen to be traveling or if you’re going to be disconnected for a while, battery life will definitely be an issue. Since there is no external battery you have to rely on recharging the internal battery. Just something to keep in mind before you make your purchase decision.
Overall I like the Tungsten E and highly recommend it for anyone looking for a feature rich PDA at a great price.

After deciding that I wanted a PDA I researched them thoroughly. I knew I wanted a color screen and one big enough so I didn't have to squint. I wanted a glorified calendar and got so much more! I settled for the Tungsten E because it met my needs and fit my budget. I bought my PDA used on Ebay and haven't been dissatisfied at all with it. It is very easy to use and had everything I needed included. The Tungsten E came with programs for Contacts, Calculator, a Calendar, Notes, Word, Excel, and more! I've since added a Weight Watchers program, Avantgo (from MapQuest), and Backgammon. With it's 32MB of storage, it's more than capable of holding all my information without the use of an expansion card!
It was easy to find screen protectors and extra stylus' for at a reasonable price - they are all over Ebay!
I found most all of the programs installed were pretty easy to use with the exception of VersaMail - still haven't figured that one out yet!
I use my PDA a lot. I keep all of my appointments in there and set alarms for them, I have yet to miss one! I write my grocery lists and to-do lists in it too! In addition, I set reminders for sending out B-day cards and playdates. This is a must-have for busy moms! Also, I'm addicted to the stupid Backgammon game I've downloaded! I'm on my PDA at least 45 minutes a day. It will hold a charge all day long and give you plenty of warnings when the battery is getting low. Even if you run out of battery and have to reset, you won't lose your information. I like that I don't have to "save" everything - it saves my info automatically! I charge it every night.
In addition, it is very easy to sync to my computer, through a USB connection and do so on a weekly basis. It's nice to know that my info is backed up in case anything were to happen to my little PDA.
I went ahead and got the hard case for it being that I keep it in my purse and didn't want anything to scratch it.
The only downfall I have come across is the stylus. Although, the screw off end is nice for pressing the "reset" when needed. The writing point broke off when I dropped it. Also, the graffiti II that you use to write letters and numbers takes a little getting used to but you can always pull up the keyboard.
By not replacing the stylus right away, I have damaged the screen on mine. It still works alright but sometimes needs to be tapped a few times in order to get the command to take. This of course can be avoided by changing the screen protector as soon as it gets worn and also by keeping your stylus in tip-top shape.

I love everything about the Palm Tungsten E. Once I got the product it was easy to use. The directions for using it were well written. The ability to put your information on the product by way of computer or by typing it in on the product makes it easy to get the information needed on it. Great way to have a planner without have a big book. Compact and goes everywhere.

Tungsten E - Palm productHave been using Palm products for years now & was looking forward to seeing what new innovations Palm has provided in this very competitive field. Just got my Tungsten E & am still in process of discovering all it can do but the one major issue I have is the battery charge. It can only hold a charge for a couple of days as to my Palm Zire which didn't need to be charged for weeks! Was thinking of buying an extended battery & although I believe I would be able to find someone to solder the new battery in, I do believe this may void my warranty. Will probably purchase addl chargers instead.

I love this Palm because it is the most recent model with infrared. All newest models use bluetoth only. My laptop and my celular phone haven't bluetoth.
It works very well and I'm very glad with that.I use one by 3 years and bought another one for step.

I turned to eBay to search and finally buy a Palm Tungsten E because I needed an exact replacement for my failed PDA. Very simply I had to have the exact replacement for a reasonable price. I had all the applications, PC interface and personal information which I wanted to download to the new instrument. There are a few minor differences because this is a previously owned PDA, but nothing I would consider negative. I received the purchased item, interfaced it with my PC, downloaded my files and I was back in business.

Palm Tungsetn EI bought this for my wife, and she love's it. It has very good construction, A A very clear and bright screen. It runs all the programs that I have thrown at it without any crashes. My wife uses it every day and has had no problems of any kind with it. I don't like it as good as my Tungsten T5 that has a faster cpu, and a bigger screen. But hey its not mine, and she likes it just fine, and thats all that matters!!

Rebirth of a Palm Tungsten E PDAI bought this device to replace a Palm Tungsten E that I'd owned for 4 years that eventually expired due to age. Firstly, I was a little reluctant about buying a device of this nature over Ebay. Initially, I joined Ebay just to get another Palm as I couldn't afford to buy a brand new pocket PC and decided to take the plunge. I use this device every day at work as a registered nurse in a critical care setting and the medical software I have loaded onto the Palm helps keep my patients safe in regards to administering medications, drug titrations, lab info, etc. I had been without my Palm for 1 month and was desperate for a new one. This was an excellent purchase. I was able to hotsync the new Palm and instantly loaded all of the data from my old Palm onto the new one. I didn't lose a single bit of data. It took me years to acquire all of this data! The device works well, has a great battery life, and looks far more cosmetically better than the prior Palm. I got a great new case for it and even secured an unexpectant Palm keyboard out of the deal as well. I feel more comfortable caring for my patients now that I have my Palm back. The quick information I need is now back at my fingertips. This will serve as a great transition period for when I can afford the Pocket PC of my dreams. I plan on using this device for a minimum of 1 year before purchasing something else and I am sure I will get to that point. Who knows I may just get that new device on Ebay too! Thanks Ebay!

Menus are easy to use...but watchout for the HotsyncWhen transferring information to the E2 from another Palm, nmake sure you download the new desktop functionality before you do it. My wife lost all her info when she tried to Hotsync without updating her Palm Desktop Assistant

The Palm Tungsten E is an excellent, very capable device. Excellent screen, lots of memory and a fast processor make this a great PDA for almost anyone. While it lacks some high-end features, such as 320x480 resolution (it's 320x320) and wireless, it has just about everything else.
Best of all, it's cheap. Great PDA for the price, perhaps the best value available!

Palm Tungsten EI was looking for a PDA to load my Bible software 'Quick Verse'. After buying this product, I was very pleased that it served my purpose and much more. I use the calendar function to keep all my appointments. My Bible works just fine. This PDA does not freeze or lock up. It makes Studying the Bible very easy. I was also very pleased with the price that I paid. It was very reasonable and I was pleased with the buying experience. I would recommend this product to anyone who wants to use a particular software and meet the simple organizational needs.

I bought this Tungsten E as a back up for the one that I have had for about 2 years. It had an excellent price and I had other parts that I could replace if it needed it when it arrived, from another "E" that I had owned. I use the PDA daily for recipes, keeping track of my DVD movie collection, keeping track of my dieting with WWCalc, keeping a shopping list for our daycare, pictures of our grandchildren, movie clips, and the list keeps going on. I would be lost without my Tungsten E. That is why I bought another one. They no longer make this PDA and I wanted to make sure I had one in case mine stopped working for some reason.

Great for keeping track of lifeThis is a lightweight, well put together palm. It fits in a pocket or purse easily. It has many applications, but I just basically use it as an address book, which I hot sync with my computer. I love the rechargeable battery, which plugs into an outlet. Older palms needed constant replacement of throw away batteries.

A perfect, though old design, PDA.Palm is badly behind but this is true, at least in part, because their products are so good. There is little reason to change them. If you want an excellent, no frills, PDA, this is the one for you. If you want WiFi, the the T/X is the choice.

Tungsten EI use my palm tungsten E every day for work reports and the spread sheets for utility reports I can keep extensive records of every thing I do. It always amazes everyone when I can pull up machine serial numbers or programs for any equipment at any time. Also, I have every phone number I need right in the palm of my hand (sorry for the pun). I could get by without it but it makes life much easier. The one problem is trying to get the programs that originally came with the tungsten since you need the original cd and mine didn't come with the cd so I've had to buy the programs but at a discount on ebay.

Super PDA charge every dayIT's a super pda very usefull, the only thing it's the battery do not last verry long, whit normal use you have to charge it every night for the next day.

Second Palm (prior M515) and I really like this one.I wanted a newer Palm and didn't want to spend alot of money. This one didn't come with the Install CD but I got one on Ebay. It was a little harder to install than my M515 which included transferring from the old one but I figured it out without too much trouble. The reviews on the forums were not very positive but I haven't had any trouble. Someday I will upgrade again.
