I upgraded to the Treo 650 from the LG VX6000 camera phone and I absolutely love the Treo. I wanted a good quality phone and a Palm Pilot and I got both in one product. I opted for the 650 instead of the 700 because of price and the Palm OS rather than Windows. Not much of a Windows fan :(

Pros: the Treo Palm functions are all the same as a normal PDA. The phone functions include an easy-to-use contact list, large on-screen numbers for dialing, speed dials, and call logs for everything. The camera is good quality and the built-in memory holds more than enough pics. I expanded the memory when I put in an external 2GB SD card for mp3's and more pictures. Although I was hesitant to buy the phone because of the small buttons, I have found them quite easy to use since they are arranged liek a normal keyboard. I was pretty good at typing text messages using Smart Text but I have quickly adapted to using the keyboard on the phone.

Cons: Obviously the size is a little heftier than your normal flip phone or Razor but not as annoying as I thought it would be. I use a bluetooth headset so I almost never put the phone up to my ear. The screen is very big for a phone so you need to make sure you put on a screen protector. The SD card is spring loaded so it pops out in my pocket sometimes. You don't really want to lose a 2GB SD card so be careful :(

Overall, any cons are minor compared to the advantages that this sleek phone/PDA offers. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in investing a little in an upgrad.

  Memory card ejection, OH NO!
Review created: 12/04/05

I love my TREO 650, BUT...

The SD card slot lock-in mechanism is spring loaded and when subjected to a jolt, can eject your memory card!

This has happened to me 3 times. Twice I did not notice the ejection and lost 1GB cards! OUCH! That hurts the wallet. Now, I have a funky, grey duct tape fix in place that also covers the IR port, eliminating that functionality for me. Not a great deal, but better than having yet another card loss!

There should be a design fix for this, such as a lock that slides over the top of the card from the right of the slot.

I have also had problems with spontaneous reboots of the phone, but that's another story.

Heavily Damaged Treo 650 (Cingular Branded)
Review created: 08/31/08
by:

*NB: I'm not too sure why I've been requested to write a revue on an item that I purchased for parts (its already been dismantled. Several pieces have already been de-soldered from the main board).
Anyway, the product I received had no screws securing the case together. Cellotape used to keep the aerial attached to its mount. The case had several ugly cracks around the lcd perimeter. The LCD is cracked and non-functional. When the case was opened, several small components fell out. The components are power resistors that should have been attached near the communications connector. When the camera component was activated, the colour is extremely bright and distorted.
Good points, the radio module that I wanted, worked perfectly.

****** AGAIN, THIS REVUE IS FOR A HEAVILY DAMAGED TREO 650 PDA WHICH WAS ******
********************** PURCHASED FOR PARTS ONLY. ******************************

treo 650 recieved today.... bad shape...
Review created: 08/25/08

heard it was a great phone but the seller didn't tell me that the phone didn't work. flashed on and off a bunch of times and now it won't even come on. seems the 680 is a much better pic for a treo style if you're into these older palm phones. even the 700 is still pretty cheap if you bid on it. the 680's are great though seeing as that i didn't get to use my 650 i truely can't give it any kind of rating.

  My Favorite Treo
Review created: 08/04/08

1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

On my daily commute, I would always carry three things: My cell phone, my MP3 player, and my Palm PDA (a Tungsten E). A few years ago, this was three devices, and it was a major hassle. I would be listening to the MP3 player when the cell phone would ring, and then it was a whole juggling act to pause the player and answer the phone. All my contacts were in Outlook on my PC, which synchronized with my Palm but not at all with my cell phone. So, I would look up numbers in the Palm and dial them on the cell phone.

I looked longingly at the Palm Treo smart phones as what might one day solve my problem of how to do those three functions with one device. When I saw that the Treo 650 was selling for less than $100 on eBay, I jumped at the chance, and I haven't been disappointed.

First of all, I didn't want the Treo 600 for lack of two features. 1) It has a screen with 160x160 resolution, which is a step down from the 320x320 resolution found on the Treo 650 and my Palm Tungsten E. 2) On the 600 model, like with my PDA, it loses the memory if the battery (non-removable) runs down all the way and has to be resynched to the computer to restore. The 650 retains its memory even without the battery and the battery pack is removable.

With the additional purchase of an MP3 player program like AeroPlayer or PocketTunes, I have single device that I wanted. I can listen to MP3s while looking up a contact and dialing. When a call comes it, playback pauses and I can answer the call, all through the same stereo earphones. The QWERTY keyboard is better for text entry than my PDA is too. Reception is very good. Battery life is very good. Sound quality is pretty good too.

Here are the things that I DON'T do with my Treo 650, which may give you some idea of where the later (and pricier) models may have an advantage. I don't do email on my Treo. I don't surf the web. I don't want to pay $50 a month extra for a full data plan. I don't edit office documents. I don't watch videos. The phone is a little bulky. Bluetooth is a little flaky. But I got what I wanted, a device that I am happy to use as my cell phone, PDA and MP3 player for a bargain price.

Good PDA but a little bulky...
Review created: 08/02/08

Great PDA with enormous capabilities. I really like this PDA because it is easy to figure out and has a large screen. Using it as a phone is kind of complicated but easy to figure out once you get used to it as a phone. I like this model, but it is a little bulky and heavier than I like. It does not fit easily into a pocket or a purse and the touch screen is very sensitive. Overall, it's a good PDA and I like it for all the features.

  Palm Treo 700P

The only reason that I did not give the phone a excellent rating is because it is too bulky and the card slips out sometimes. It's like having a mini laptop though. I can go online and look up phone numbers instead of dialing information. Overall I am pleased but confused as well because it took me forever to figure out how to get the email to work.

Just take 2 minutes and read this. This is very EASY to do! It literally takes 10 minutes to setup. Simply follow the steps below. I promise you, this is 100% real. Here is what you do. Click on the link below, register, pick an account type (referral is the easiest) and complete just 1 offer (Very important that you complete the 1 offer otherwise your account will sit in limbo until you do). The best offer to do is STAMPS.com. Its free, all you need to do is register and follow the instructions. And you’re on your way to your free prize for just completing this offer!

There are plenty of cool offers to choose from such as Blockbuster online, Stamp.com, Netflix, Gamefly which are services you would regularly sign up for anyways and their all secure networks, why not use them to get a free PS3, flat screen TV, iPHONE, ipod or cash (I did the Stamps.com for a 4 week free trial and it is free! I don’t have to do anything with it). Look at the offers and choose the one that works for you. After signing up and completing your one offer, simply refer 5-14 people or friends (depending on the FREE prize you choose) to do the same under your link (just post the same thing as I have on eBay or any other message board, and you'll get your referrals before the auction even ends.)

Then they will ship your selected item for free. No Joke, 100% REAL!!! The reason these companies make money, is because most people don't bother getting all the referrals. All you have to do is post it on EBAY! They use us as advertisement by word of mouth which saves them tons of money which goes toward yours and my free gift. These are legit companies such as Blockbuster, Netflix, Gamefly etc... You can copy my listing if you want. You must use your own authentic link though.   PalmOS Treo 650 Sprint

I upgraded from a Handspring Visor Prism this summer. In many ways I wish I'd done this years ago. The built in camera is nice, not good for detailed pix, but convenient. The keyboard isn't bad, but I really do miss the scratchpad on my Prism. I have learned that the shortcut strokes do work, you simply press the letter instead of a pen stroke followed by the letter. Having a built in SD/MMC card slot is nice. It comes with Real Player, so MP3s are playable immediately. However, you can only hear them if they are saved to the card, and not a folder inside the card (learned the hard way). I stick the card in the computer and transfer that way--it is fast. Recommend at least a 512MB card. 2GB is max (the older style). The 2.5mm phone jacks are not real sturdy, but there are fixes available online. Typically one ear only will be working if it is bad. The photo mgr is a little different, but once you master creating new folders, it isn't too bad. Since it is Palm OS, I simply beamed all of my memos and tasks over from my Prism. Handy and time-saving. Screen color and detail are pretty good. I keep the brightness down to save battery power, but this limits visibility in bright sunlight. Indoors doesn't seem to matter. It will sync with Windows XP and Vista, haven't tried others yet. I can go over a week without recharging. Have not used the phone yet, as I inadvertently bid on a Sprint phone (I have Cingular). All in all, a good PDA.

  An excellent all-in-one tool
Review created: 10/10/07
by:

This PDA smartphone has a lot of the essentials: touchscreen, stylus, the BEST datebook on the market, browsing, push email (with a few tweaking here and there).
PROS: Bright screen, fast OS, user-friendly, easy to navigate, excellent keyboard
CONS: Slow EDGE network, small screen, must download software ($$) to have songs for ringtones

It's approaching antiquity nowadays with all the newer smartphones (iPhone) on the market, but it's a handy, economical tool for business and personal use.

  Planning on buying this?

I have to say, this has to be one of the worst phones I have ever owned. It's great if you like to do small tech things like write documents to go, but that's why people invented laptops. Stick to the point. A cell phone is designed to make calls. This phone just does a poor job doing it. It is heavy, the keys are small, screen gets smudgy and the battery life stinks. It's not just one battery, it was all of them. The phone eats battery life like a hog.... I'm telling you....don't buy this phone because it's a piece of garbage! You'll regret it if you do...

Palm Treo - half as good.
Review created: 09/12/07
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I purchased the Palm Treo because because of the combination of a PDA and cellphone. I really wanted to use the PDA to schedule my appointments and keep notes. Unfortunately, the merging of PDA with cellphone gave me a product that was note as good as the individual products are on their own.

PDA: The screen is too small to use effectively. In order to accommodate the dialing pad Palm cut the screen down in size. Be prepared to do a lot of scrolling and squinting if you are trying to read email or any MS Office documents. Also, there is no native support for using the stylus to hand write notes into the PDA - Again, I think this is due to the cellphone keypad. The lack of the ability to quickly hand write notes really killed my enthusiasm for using the PDA.

Cell phone: n my opinion, the Palm Tro 650 has terrible cell capabilities. Almost every call that I make or take is garbled to some degree. The back of the phone gets hot with prolonged use and the PDA screen becomes wet with ear sweat. This is not a phone you loan to someone without having a towel to clean it off afterward.

PROs: You can carry a lot of documents using the SD card. If you're patient and have good eyesight you can even read these documents.

I have always used a Palm organizer and a Verizon cell phone. I thought that this would be an excellent combination of both. I was very disappointed! It was not as easy to use as my Palm E2 and ackward to use as a phone. Neither had the full features of the devices that I was trying to combine. The quality of the Palm Treo 650 was excellent.

  Amazing!

I needed the Palm organizer benefits and got a good buy on the Treo on an auction. I am very impressed with all the features! I subscribed to the Cingular package and got my email on the go and everything! There is one more thing I am really interested in - the GPS add-on! But for now, after surfing the net a bit and checking my email a few times, I decided the $40 a month for the Cingular package was not worth it for me and dropped that. I love the fact that anything I have entered in the calendar that comes up appears on the phone when I use it so I am reminded. Now if I can only remember to PUT the stuff ON the calendar!
