Palm Treo 600

Anyone who is considering a converged PDA + Cell Phone solution should give the Treo 600 a long hard look. Not only is the Treo 600 an excellent PDA, it has features that make it a much better phone solution than the typical $99.00 flip phone that is offered "free" by most service providers.

The Treo 600 by Palm, uses the Palm OS V5.x. One of the best things about using any Palm OS device is the wealth of software options/solutions that are available.

My Treo is loaded with a number of applications that make the most of its converged feature set and Internet connectivity. I use Agendus for contact management and Agendus Mail for email/SMS messaging. Using these on the Treo allows me to send/receive email to/from any of my contacts with a couple of touches. I can even get a weather report for my client/vendor location, giving my conversations with them a more personal touch. Using VeriChat, I can chat with my contacts and family using MSN, Yahoo or AIM! With Pocket Tunes I can stream live music from the web and with AvantGo I always have the latest news and information at my fingertips.

One of the nicest features of the Treo 600 is the ability to turn off the sound (ring tones, etc.) by simply sliding a switch on the top of the unit. This avoids fumbling with button combinations as you are going into a meeting or just before the movie starts! Up/down volume buttons on the side of the Treo make it easy to adjust the volume on the run.

The thumb keyboard is not going to win you any typing contests, but is perfectly adequate for entering contact info/phone numbers on the fly or entering search strings to lookup previously stored information. Most people will want enter new information using either the Palm Desktop software or Outlook and then synchronize it to their Treo.

The Treo 600 comes with an SD Memory card slot, typical of recent Palm models. Equipped with a 256M or larger SD card, the Treo can store a complete backup, hundreds of music files and offload programs from main memory to improve performance.

The decision to buy a Treo 600 or one of the newer 650 or even 700 series models shouldn’t be too difficult. The only significant differences between the 600 and 650 are the 650’s support for Bluetooth and the ability to capture video instead of only still pictures from the built in camera. The 600 also lacks a removable battery, which could be an issue for travelers who spend a lot of time on the phone and don’t have a wall or car charger handy.

Cost is currently (4th Qtr, 2005) the major advantage the Treo 600 has over other converged devices. Some providers, like T-Mobile, are offering their remaining stock of Treo 600s for as little as $150 with a one year contract. Compare this to $250 for a 650 with a two year contract from Cingular or Verizon and the value of the 600 becomes apparent. The 700 series promises to provide even faster performance and the potential of WiFi support, but for many, the premium cost ($595) of these features, in the near future, may not be enough to justify them. I could not get the phone to charge on the charger. When I asked the seller about it they were less than forthcoming to me. So I would say that this buy was a complete bust.

it frezzes all the time,and even its unlocked it does not work with t mobile,and the reception for the phone is very bad, i bought it and i returned back same day i recieved it

I bought the phone because it was a good phone and cheap. Overall, I'd recommend the phone if you're on a budget.

I love this phone because it makes texting so much easier! I also love how organized I can be with the calender feature. Definitely a great phone!

I bought the phone beacause i wanted another phone at a cheaper price. Teh phone was exactly like the buyer said it was so i please with the product.

I dont like that it isnt bluetooth compatible..I love the big screen and keyboard.I wanted this phone for text messages mostly. Since I do so much of it it is a big help. But being that it is so large it gets heavy holding and talking to someone.

I decided to buy because it is something that I wanted it and for that price, I couldn't find it anywhere else. I have been a long lasting member of ebay and all the sellers have been great. I BOUGTH THIS PHONE CAUSE I NEEDED A NEW PHONE AND CAUSE I LIKE THE DESIGN.

I was unable to obtain a sim card for this product. The phone came to me in great condition and working great as far as turning it on and off but as far as function i don't know how well it works because it did not come with the sim card therefore i had to give it a below average rating.

I am ungrading from a bag analog phone which is being replaced by digital. I wanted a picture phone with all the latest features but when I started my search I was put down by the cost. I then noticed ebays breakdown of the different treos and I dropped from the 650 to the 600. I purchased a Sprint palmOne which came with all attachments and manual. I downloaded the free software and now can load my Bible, etc right on my phone. It is a great piece of equipment and Sprint has the cheapest rate for this area. Everything worked out great and I am presently looking to get another one for my employee. I am sure the 650 or 700 is better but this one was the right price and it does everything plus. Great buy good transaction and all the info was right on Ebay.

It was bought because it has internet capabilities. It is fully featured, however I dont like that Palm remove the graffiti writing ability. Also the phone is big and cumbersome. The keypad is unweildy and extremely difficult to use unless you have a child's hands. The four way button is not easy to use. Also the buttons are packed in so tight that many times you wind up hitting keys you did not intend to. A bit of a disappointment to say the least.

This purchase has been nothing but hell for me. He claimed this item was in excellent condition!It was nothing as described, missing parts, scratched up, dirty, and you could barly hear people, because of this loud buzzing. I let the caller know there was no CD and a 512m card. He said i was a liar he knows it was there because he packed it himself, then i described his sons pictures, his business contact info etc that was left in the phone on the card he put in place of the 512m card by accident. He realized he made a mistake and demanded me to sent his other 32m card to him right away. He said he wont give me my money back and he would give me 15dollars to go buy a 512 card, (those cards cost 3x that much)thats y that was his how selling piont during the auction! And hed give me my shipping back. I choose this item for the free card! We have sent emails back and forth, i let him know i would give him bad feedback, so he aggreed to give me my money but t hat he now would not give me my shipping. I send the item back weeks ago, gave him the trace number, and he still hasnt given me my money, ive been dealing with this for over a month!

The Treo600 phone is an earlier model of a very expensive device. Combining
the functions of a 'palm' based PDA with a phone is an obvious bit of convergence lightening the load of those with a need for both devices. As a phone it leaves a little bit to be desired with regard to outgoing voice quality and comfort, but it makes up for that in spades by freeing you from the need to carry a separate phone.
This one was bought to replace one with a cracked screen, so do be aware they shouldn't be dropped!

As for the ebay purchase side of it, I for one was very happy to avoid the carrier's retail monopoly on phone sales. I can also vouch for the fact that an 'unlocked' phone, made for your particular carrier, is as simple as could be to start using for a fraction of the price of the current model.

I don't know enough about the differences between models to really offer any comparison between competing products, so if you aren't on a budget, my 'excellent' rating could be misleading as I don't have any standards for comparison in this sector.

I like being able to answer the phone, take notes on the pda while I'm talking on the phone. The keyboard beats the graffiti writing style. Marrying the PDA with the cell phone is an outstanding combination.

I ordered this phone a month in a half ago i still have not received the phone yet. They got my payment through paypal but i still have yet to receive my phone or my money back.

Do you hate having a seperate PDA and cell phone? If yes, you are like me and I recommend you make the switch as my wife and I did recently. The Treo 600 made the transition an easy and pleasing one.

We stay very busy, so it is crucial to keep everything in order so we can keep our sanity. With the Treo 600, I can keep all my appointments, contacts, budget, games, and to-do's in arms reach at all times.

When you think of PDA phones, you immediately probably think about their bulkiness, however, the Treo series is quite small in the palm of your hand. I keep mine in my pocket most of the time. It is built very sturdy and the design is superb. I find it quite easy to type on the keyboard. You can't really say the same for the Blackberry and some of the Pocket PC models.

In the Palm Treo product line of PDA phones, the Treo 600 is the best blend of affordability and robust features unlike the pricier Treo 650 and 700. For under $150 here on eBay, you can't really beat that with a stick. Palm makes the best PDA phonesm, period.

Note: The only problem I have with the Treo 600 is that it does not have Bluetooth capabilities. This is probably due to the period of time the Treo 600 was released, so I will not factor that into my review.
