I thought it was a great buy because it was on the bestsellers' list. However, upon reading it, it seemed written more by a lovestruck 24 year old than it did someone with a mature understanding of love. The language is not as eloquent as I thought it would be, but it is corny, and best suited for teenagers who do not like to read. The situations the protagonist finds herself in do not seem to have been well thought out (i.e. when she pretends to be royalty? Come on)
The humor is paltry, at best, and seems to be very girlish and immature. There are admittedly, some parts in the plot where I chuckle a little bit, but given all the hype this book has received, I was sorely disappointed with the various conversations/discussions the protagonist had with her friends. I expected a bit of dry wit and sharp humor. I honestly didn't find it, and probably I was unfair in my expectations simply because I had heard so many good reviews about this author.
I did NOT like this book at all, and I intend to sell it on eBay once I do have the time. It is such a pity that it was written by Bertie Ahern's daughter. It seems to me her book received so much accolades only because she shares his last name, and not really because she has any special literary ability worth mentioning. I'm sorry, but I do have high standards. I'm sure not everyone will agree --- but take into consideration the fact that the movie is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM WHAT HAPPENS IN THE BOOK! It only means that the book needed major, major improvement.
