Album Notes The Gories includes: Peggy O'Neil (drums); Mick, Dan. If it's possible to be at once retro and ahead of one's time, then the Gories achieved that ironic combination. Perhaps their chaotic and intentionally low-fi take on '60s city blues and surf-rock would have fared far better in the wake of such successful acts as the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. Luckily, the band cut three fine albums before disbanding. OUTTA HERE, the last of the Gories' trio of albums, displays the Detroit threesome's ability to add their special touch to surf standards and Lieber and Stoller tunes with equal dexterity. The gospel-influenced "There But For the Grace of God Go I" and the disjointed lead guitar of "Ichiban" display the Gories' ability to cull from various genres and fit them together into their own mold.
