Outlaw Star - Complete Collection (DVD, 2006, Anime Legends; 3-Disc Set)

Through Outlaw Star does resemble Cowboy Bebop during its time in terms of animation drawings and techs., OS does have more of a focus to the plot than CB. Based on a manga, OS tells the story of Gene Starwind and his crew of the Outlaw Star. Gene gets caught up with a war betweeen pirates with his rescuing of Althena, an bioandroid who is the key to finding and unlocking the Galatic Leyline, a mysterious legendary treasure of power. Through out the show, Gene and his companions fight the pirates while reaching the Leyline.

In terms of comedy, this show had alot of funny moments that will make you remember the series for a long time (like the hot springs, self-destruct maintenance, and most weird, alien cactus). In terms of action, it was O.K. through it was not as rememerable (through the stealing of a character's sash was rememberable for the comedy elemets).

However the series's weakpoint is towards the end with the revelation of the Leyline. The series keeps you in suspense of what the Leyline is, not hinting to what it should be. When the viewer finds out, you should be disappointed and be reminded of a other anime/manga plot that have a item be like it. Also the decision to give characters's drastic makeovers (to symbol growing up) makes you wonder where the characters were that you loved.

Voices: I may be biased since this is one of the first animes I saw but most of the English were really good and fit the characters. Japanese voices are really bad and not really good like the English.

Last say: I do agree with other that this collection is cheap and can be easily afforded and commonly able. If you are looking for a good sci-fi/action/comedy with a less serious tone for a plot, get OS than CB. It is worth the money.
