Album Notes A quarter of a century is a long time to take to release a second album, but that's how long it took Everything But the Girl's Tracy Thorn to issue her sophomore solo outing, 2007's OUT OF THE WOODS. Though not a radical departure from EBTG, the record distinguishes itself as a more dynamic showcase for the British singer's gently emotive voice, with tracks ranging from the giddy synth-pop of "It's All True" to the beautifully sullen "By Piccadilly Station I Sat Down and Wept."
Editorial Reviews 4 stars out of 5 -- [With] a folky acoustic ballad, some retro-techno dance pop, a handful of melody trip-hop lullabies, and one gorgeous, flute-kissed torch song. Spin
Across dancefloor styles and pop fashions, the overall mood is at once melancholy and comforting....The permanence of OUT OF THE WOODS is the beauty she brings to both states of being. No Depression
'Hands Up To The Ceiling' hearkens back to EBTG's neo-folk roots....And the way Thorn sings uncannily like Annie Lennox during 'Raise The Roof' is equally surprising. CMJ
4 stars out of 5 -- With artful polished acoustics nestled snugly against electronic disco bliss, WOODS is the best record EBTG never made, a new peak for Thorn in a career full of heights. Alternative Press
3 stars out of 5 -- [R]unning the gamut from downbeat techno balladry to exuberant, '80s-styled New York dance-pop... Q
[Her] English melancholy and manners shine through, resulting in a tasteful disco effort. -- Grade: B Entertainment Weekly
