Both the digipak and disc were in pristine condition. Wish I could have won other Stones hybrids this merchant was selling but I did not.

Early Stones With Their First Anthem
Review created: 11/21/06

I think Ron Wood solidified the Rolling Stone's lineup, but at the time the Stones were still trying to find their sound, and Brian Jones' playing was pretty good for the time. The classic Satisfaction in it's original form is on this CD. The sound of this CD is more like The Last Time though, another early hit for the Stones. This album has an older sound (not a bad thing) with a bluesy feel. It doesn't quite have that classic Stones rock in your face sound, but it's getting there. Mercy, Mercy and Marvin Gaye's Hitch Hike kick it off in Buddy Holly-ish style. Good Times is more of the same. I'm All Right is a cool live jam. Then you have the classic, the one that everyone knows. Satisfaction is pure commercial Stones. If you've never heard Satisfaction and Start Me Up, then you know absolutely zero about music. The Stones are just starting to find their classic sound on Satisfaction. This one sounds a little different from the rest of the album. It still has an older sound, but it's a little out of place with everything else. I don't know if it was recorded at the same time, but it doesn't really fit with this album. I think it's a little ahead of it's time even for the Stones. But this is the tune that really put the Stones on the map forever. If they never would have recorded this tune, they still would have been the immortal band they are today; but this made them a household name with even the most anti-social. You'd have to be dead not to have heard of this one (OK I know, enough already).

This album is mostly covers. They only do 4 of their own tunes, but those are the best ones: The Last Time and Satisfaction we've heard of. The Spider and The Fly and One More Try foretell what's to come with Mick and Keith putting their heads together. We're given just a small glimpse of one of the best (if not the best) songwriting teams in the early stages of their career. This album is an absolute must for die-hard Stones fans. Casual fans may not like it as much, since they do so many older sounding songs (it is actually early in their careers, so that's probably why the songs sound older). Listening to this album reminds me a lot of Chuck Berry (a major Stones influence) and possibly Buddy Holly or The Yardbirds. I totally dig it, but I'm a die-hard fan. Most songs on here aren't mainstream, but Satisfaction deserves to be in everyone's collection whether it's from this album or one of their compilations.
