I saw this movie some time ago, and loved it. My wife only saw a few months ago, and also fell in love with it. She has always loved Africa, and one day wishes to go there. I bought it for her to enjoy over and over again

Deserving of best picture... I have not traveled to Africa, but I have lived in South America. I felt Streep's character's amazement and frustration of being in a foreign land, felt her feeling of abandonment. Strong women can still be weak in a patriarchal world. Beautiful narration in her voice and the music told her mood. Visually mesmerizing and dreamy. The visuals and music danced together like two lovers in tune.

A perfect blending of cast, story, scenery and music makes this movie a modern classic! Streep and Redford weave in and out of each others lives and hearts. Kenya 1914, a time when women were supposed to sit back and be quiet, Karen (Streep) takes hold of the reigns of her life and meets it head on! Based on a true story.

This is a classic movie that depicts a geographical region rarely glimpsed and a time in history not often depicted. My reason for purchasing this film stems from my desire to share this film with my high school students (I teach both geography and history) that are too young to remember that this film won many awards for its portrayals and great cinematography.

Missed it when it came out on the big screen. Missed it when it played on TV in the 90's too. But neighbors are now borrowing it after we watched it and it's a tear jerker....and really well done. We also watched Australia the evening or two before. Though a wonderful and different movie both were period pieces but Out of Africa dominated in quality all around. Enjoyed both movies but totally love Out of Africa as a class act and class film we'll look forward to rewatching again...I don't rewatch movies it takes one very special one...the acting was so well done....Redford should consider another epic.....Streep too. I did wish there was more information on the true story or a little more mention of what happened to the lady after she left Africa for good. Hard to belive this movie is as old as it is now....timeless!

Glorious setting for a lesson on independent spirit and the price that the spirit demands. Redford and Streep reach the pinnacle of acting.

This is the best movie that I think Meryl Streep and Robert Redford ever did--the chemistry between them is incredible. And, the scenery, the beauty of Africa, is undescribable. The plane ride the two of them take together make you feel like you are really there. Great movie, great story and it is a true story. I just got the DVD, but has the VHS before that and have watched it 50+times. Gotta see it!

Bought this dvd a month ago. The picture and sound quality are excellent. Being a Robert Redford fan love this movie. Especially liked that Meryl Streep and Sydney Pollack talk about the movie. Was disappointed though that there was no talking about the movie by Redford.

Had several reasons for buying the dvd. Is not available in the area where I live. It was a great buy it now price. The shipping fee was very low.

I recommend to all the purchasing of this dvd. It is a heartwarming movie that is true.

This movie is an all time favorite, it is based on a true story, and an amazing story. It makes you realize how difficult life was for women in the past, and how hard it is to attain your dreams. I love this movie. I laugh, cry, get angry, and come to accept it as it goes along, every time I see it. I have watched it many times.

Meryl Streep is great in her role, as always, and so is Robert Redford. The real attention getter, though, is the presentation of Africa as a living, breathing entity, and it is great. I loved the "old boy" customs, and how the heroine ignored them, and her tremendous capacity for love.

It's not your normal, "happy ever after", but is thought provoking, and it is unforgetable. I recommend it to every woman and also, to every man who doesn't mind being a little sensitive.

This is one of my all-time favorites. Since I own the VHS version, I was anxious to update my movie library with the DVD version. Meryl Streep and Robert Redford are at the top of their game. It's a rather long movie and there are some heart-wrenching aspects to the story, but love prevails. I highly recommend Out of Africa.

I purchased this item from this person only to find out thet had resigned from Ebay and never sent the dvd. I wrote to the seller and asked them to be honest and send the dvd or refund my money, neither thing happened. I wrote Ebay and they didn't do anything yet either. It is buyer beware and Ebay gives NO guarantees!

The storyline is a sad one, but strangely connects to each of us in a deep way. The filming and scenery of the movie are exceptional. The music is haunting, and very, very good. Meryl Streep is fantastic in this movie, and is supported by a cadre of extremely good actors/actresses. This movie is one of the all-time greatests!

Out of Afica is Outstanding; Mery Streep is Superb!

This is my favorite Meryl Streep movie--the story of Danish story teller, Karen Blixen, who falls in love with one brother but marries his twin (Klaus Maria Brandauer) when her love is unrequited. Further, she travels to Africa to run a coffee plantation with the man. But he is not worthy of her love. He is hardly ever at home, and has one affair after another. So she develops an attachment to Dennis (Robert Redford), who is also a hunter and safari leader; and he loves her too because of her ability to make up stories instantly. This affair is the heart and soul of "Out of Africa" because Karen falls in love with Dennis, and he for her. But he is not going to be trapped into marriage. He is as free as everything else in Africa is.

Ultimately, she suffers one loss after another: a bout of syphilis from her husband, the loss of the coffee plantation, and finally the most tragic of all.

The music of this movie is also wonderful. You will find yourself visualizing the train bringing Karen to the plantation with her Limoges china. You will see her and Dennis dining as she tells him a story from a subject that he suggests. You will remember her at Dennis's funeral reciting a poem and the site of the burial ground where the lion rest. You will remember her flying in an early airplane with him over the African steppes with various animals running hither and to. This movie is just full of romantic and picturesque remembrances!

Although Meryl Streep did not win the Academy Award for this movie, she was nominated. Robert Redford, although he does not sound British, is also irresistible; and he was criticized for his accent or lack of one. In fact, the slow-movement of the movie is also irresistible. I know of no one who dislikes it. It was also the Best Picture Academy Award winner of that year.

This is one of my all time favorite movies. Maryl Streep is an excellent actress and she shines in this movie.
The camera work, the music, the script, the story line... this movie is well made and beautiful to watch.
It is insightful and funny. A spot light on an interesting time in history in a fascinating place, and a sweetly romantic story. I watch it again and again and again and love it anew every time.
"If I know a song of Africa (...) Does Africa know a song of me?"

Out of Africa is one of my all time favorite movies. No matter how many times I see it I cry at the ending. M. Streep and R. Redford make quite a couple. I ordered the VHS version and the quality wasn't good. I now have a DVD player and am thrilled to have it in my library of favorite movies. Thank you!
