This final studio album before Natalie Merchant departed for a solo career marked the zenith of the 10000 Maniac's mainstream popularity, for better or worse. They certainly perfected the melodic presentation of socially-conscious messages here, stridently with "Candy Everybody Wants" and and pensively with "These Are Days".
