Album Notes Half Japanese includes: Jad Fair, David Fair. This album was originally released simultaneously with SING NO EVIL in 1984. These were among the last recordings with David Fair, before he left the band in the hands of his co-founding brother, Jad, and retired from the music scene. David wrote most of these songs (though Jad sings most of them), and they're a wonderful range of paeans to love, girls, dancing, and more girls. The set's few covers are telling: Roky Erickson's "You're Gonna Miss Me," The Velvet Underground's "European Son," Buddy Holly's "Because I Love You," and a medley of "Louie Louie" and Edvard Grieg's "In The Hall Of The Mountain King." Throughout, there are guitars, drums, saxophones, and everything's turned all the way up. This is a prime example of lo-fi garage exuberance full of romance, confidence, and verve.
