Synopsis
When you flip through the pages of The Onion's OUR FRONT PAGES, which presents 21 years of the weekly "fake" newspaper's hilarious headlines and ridiculous first paragraphs, a legitimate thought might be "Wait, did this really happen? Is this perhaps one of the most accurate accounts of American history from 1988-2009 that I will be able to find?" For as fabricated as this news is, the Onion has always had a knack for honing in on exactly what's going on in the U.S., reading between the "real" newspapers' carefully written lines to get to the heart of what people are thinking. That's why it's so darn funny. With this oversize volume, fans of the rag will get a chance to witness the evolution of the publication, as it's gone from a college campus publication to a national web- and print-media giant. This is one big onion.

Publisher's Note
Since its founding by a bloodthirsty tyrant in 1756, The Onion has not merely changed the way we think about the news--it has changed whether we think about the news at all. As the first decade of this new millennium draws to a close, OUR FRONT PAGES shows us the first thing that presidents, kings, prime ministers, and popes saw when they opened their eyes each morning for the last 21 years. Now you, the common reader and citizen, can see what they saw and be as informed as they were with this important retrospective of the past two decades. You, too, will realize what generations before have realized and generations yet unborn will some day realize in turn: The Onion is not merely the chronicle of America. The Onion is America.

Industry Reviews
"[P]latter-size...."
(11/02/2009)

"Much of the humor arises from a proudly noncoastal dissonance between the media's slickness and the mundanity of average American life....Satire generally arises from a congenitally glum disposition....But there is also a closet optimism running through these pages, a dweebish belief that news about other dweebs is not only readable and entertaining but newsworthy as well."
