| Product Information | Short tube telescopes have their advantages -- wide field of view, great portability, etc. But for high-power viewing of lunar terrain, Jupiter's cloud bands, and Mars' surface features; for splitting double stars; and for resolving tight globular star clusters, longer focal length is the way to go. And the SVP 6LT (for long tube) has it. Its 150mm center-marked parabolic mirror has a long 1200mm focal length (f/8), which delivers 60% greater magnifying power than a 750mm short reflector using the same eyepiece, and with less edge-of-field distortion (coma). Furthermore, the 6LT's small secondary obstruction compared to rich-field reflectors gives it clarity and contrast approaching that of a 5 refractor. That makes for some incredible planetary and lunar images!
