The Original Illustrated Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1976, Hardcover)

I received this book as a birthday present in the seventies from my husband, I was very much into Sherlock Holmes and read his complete works three times! Time past on, children came and grew up, things got shuffled around the basement and we moved. I forgot all about Mr Holmes while I was caught up with my busy life. I am now living in Florida and saw an old black and white movie with Basil Rathbone as Holmes and remembered how much I enjoyed Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's style of writing and story content. I went on e-bay because I magically seem find everything I desire there and could not believe that I actually found the exact same book! For anyone who loves mystery and fantastic story telling this is the book to read, and with original drawings from his publications included, these stories will really take you back in time.

Sherlock Holmes, and Dr. Watson have reigned supreme since ACD created them long ago. As a young teenager I discovered the characters, and have cherished them ever since.
This fine book brings 37 short stories, as well as "The Hound" novel with Pagets drawings to life. I found this book on Ebay, purchased a copy and cherish it very much. So if your into Sherlock Holmes this is one of the books for you. "Elementary"!

I was given this book when I was 12 or 13. It is a series of short stories, as orignally published in 'Strand' magazine, with reproductions of the illustrations used in the magazine. It includes classics like the 'red headed league' and 'hound of the baskervilles' (in case you haven't read it, the key is that the hound does NOT bark.) It fineshes with a longer story, maybe called a 'novelette'. Excellent mystery writing, interesting victorian style illustrations, and nice binding. I strongly recommend this collection for any young reader you know.

I love Sherlock Holmes and it is with great regret that I must sell it. I have read it 5 times and think it's time for others to enjoy Doyles work.

Excellent find. Book is thorough in content. Must have for any avid reader of and fan of Sherlock Holmes mystery. Was bought for the price and shipping fee, but I must admit that I underpaid because item is worth much more than what I paid. Very, very excited and pleased with this find.

I have the Jeremy Brett DVD series, and it is amazing to see how close the shows are kept to the original writing of Mr. Doyle.
