Oreck PR3200 Cleaner

I purchased one of these for a friend. When the vac arrived, I called her and told her it was in. Since we have similar households (kids, dogs, hubby), and she couldn't have it yet because her hubby had just bought her a new upright, she said I could try it out. And so I did. I put the handle together and attached it to the sweeper. I tried it out. It picked up a little, but not what I thought it would. I tried it again, going over the same area over and over and over. I let my son try it out. Didn't work any better for him. The thing is, instead of a bristle brush under the unit, it has a squeegie brush thing. It didn't pick up dog hair, it didn't pick up cookie crumbs, it didn't pick up very much at all. It says it will pick up wet stuff too, but I didn't try that because, well ewwwwww... I tried it on the floor and had better success, but a broom is easier and quicker. It was listed New In The Box, and it came New In The Box, but contained no warranty card or info or instructions or anything. I contacted the seller and found out that I would need to contact the company because even though the unit was NIB, he wasn't a authorized Oreck Dealer, so there wasn't anything he could do about it. Folks, make sure you are dealing with Authorized Oreck Dealers before purchasing this item. Oreck has a great return policy and warranty program, but it's kind of useless if you get it from someone who isn't an authorized dealer. Which means that if you are getting if for about $50 NIB, you probably aren't getting a warranty and you aren't going to be able to return it to Oreck for a refund if you don't like it. I love Oreck products as a rule, but this carpet sweeper should be swept into the junkyard... and left there.
