Military thriller master W. E. B. Griffin kicks off a new series by taking his readers to the country of Angola, where the hijacking of a plane is merely the first step in a devastating conspiracy. Turf battles among the various United States agencies have rendered them ineffective in determining the plane's whereabouts and the motivations of its hijackers. Therefore, the President assigns the mission to Carlos "Charley" Castillo, an army major attached to Homeland Security who must contend with the obstructionist behavior of his supposed government allies as well as with the terrorists.
