What do I love about this product?

The price was great..How can you beat a high definition projector for around $700 to $800 on ebay? Although it doesn't feature 1080p the quality is still great. I'm actually using this projector through a "HTPC". If you are not familiar with this it is a Home Theater PC; a computer with dvd, running to the projector. By having the resolution at 720p 1280x720 on my computer and then on the projector makes the image quality amazing for both DVD's and online gaming!

Projectors are great because you can get a 120" movie theater for under $1,000. Another great part of the Optoma HD65 is the throw distance. Even if you have a small room, the screen size will still be huge, with the zoom (keeping the quality still). The lamp is the average 2000 hours on all modes. The warranty on this product is also an excellent 2 years.

The Optoma HD65 is a very small and lightweight projector. I actually have it on a small shelf in my room. You can easily bring it to a friend's house or anywhere for some fun movie nights! The brightness and quality is that great that I don't even use an actual screen; instead I have a white wall.

Having gaming, movies, & television at such a huge image with great quality for this price is truly amazing. Other reviews for this product by others are also great.

If you decide to hook this projector up to a computer, don't hesitate to contact me because there is a program called the K-Lite codec pack, which with ffdshow the images will be even more clear and crisp!

Thanks,
Doylerules16

  Huge Beautiful Picture
Review created: 05/03/09

I wanted a HUGE screen for my home theater but worried that 720p scaled up much past 60" would be soft or fuzzy. My fears were unfounded. This projector produces a beautiful crisp image that totally surpassed my expectations.

I'm using a 106" matt white Da-lite screen, projecting from approximately 13' away. The picture consistently produces the same jaw dropping expression on my guests. I can see detail in the picture that's too small to see on my 47" 1080i TV. I find myself noticing the texture in people's clothing for example, nose hair & so on. Amazing. Having to actually move your head around while watching, like you have to in a movie theater, makes you realize you're in the big leagues now. Wonderful stuff. The projector's handling of input sources is really nice too. It down-samples 1080 to 720 flawlessly. Standard definition, as expected, looks pretty soft blown up full screen but there's an option to project at native resolution so I just watch SD at a smaller size. Blu-ray looks awesome. No surprise there. Even up-scaled DVDs look good. HD content from my DVR & AppleTV is breathtaking.

I'd have rated this 5 out of 5 if it weren't for one small complaint. I see rainbows on occasion usually in high contrast scenes. These are caused by the flickering of the projector's color wheel. Its a common problem with DLP systems. It really doesn't bother me all that much though. I'm getting used to them I guess. None of my guests have said anything so I'm wondering if maybe I'm seeing them because I'm looking for them. Again though they're really not a big deal.

If you're looking for a cost effective way to build a "real home theater" the HD65 is up to the job. Yes there are 1080 projectors out there but at the time of this review they're all well over $1000. Besides I've heard rumors that the HD65 looks as good if not better than some of the cheaper 1080 models. I'm very happy with my purchase. I think you'll feel the same way once you see its picture. Enjoy.

  Optoma HD65 HDMI Video Projector

This is very compact yet full of features much more costly projectors have, and being only 4 to 5 pounds and as I said quite compact, it is very easy to mount and remove if you want to transport this to other locations. 1700 Lumen's makes this very easy to watch and use. I have owned 4 other HD projectors of various brands and this one is my absolute favorite unless of course I had the $5000.00 1080P, this is less than 1/5 the price so you can spend that extra money on the screen and Audio System.

This is an AWESOME little projector. I watched a $20K Runco, and the picture on this "entry-level" blew it out of the water. There are so many menus to tweak the picture by, its almost scary, but the picture right out of the box is impressive. The only thing i did was tone the reds down a bit.If you're in the market for a HD projector, I can't recommend this one enough.Blu-ray feels almost 3-D. This projector will display 1080p @24hz also, even though its only supposed to be a 720p projector.Don't hesitate, buy it.

  720p Great Buy
Review created: 05/29/09

From the trusted Optoma, comes this excellent 720p Home Theater masterpiece. It is one of the brightest projectors in it's class, great for big images and moderate ambient light. Features aplenty; This thing is beautiful - even right out of the box with pre-configured settings. Also, it is small and light-weight to boot.
My single complaint is the lack of an Economy mode; although you can achieve the equivalent effect with more than a 50% light reduction (to increase lamp life) by turning off advanced image features.
I researched this true big-screen purchase for weeks with a moderate budget in mind. I wanted an HD projector to project a 200" display for a theater movie experience, as well as video games - and this projector is it! Optoma is praised for offering this little beast at such a reasonable price.

Considering the price of this little projector, I'd have to say it's the best purchase I've ever made. Now it is by no means perfect. When upconverting standard def media it does have a grain to it. I've only run true 720P HD into it from my Roku box but the HD looks much smoother and very vibrant. There's a lot of adjustments that can be made as well, but for the most part it's perfect right out of the box. Without upconverting standard def it has a very heavy screen door effect on the picture. Not so bad that it's unbearable, but it's definitely there and noticeable without looking for it. It has a short throw so it's great for small rooms. My living room is about 16' long and the projector is around 9' from the wall it's projecting on. my picture is around 72" and looks fantastic. I highly recommend this projector to anyone looking to make a home theater system. It turns on faster than my LCD projector and shuts down faster than any projector I've ever used. Enjoy HD and a large screen at a fraction of the cost of a flat screen TV!

I just bought this projector for watching movieS and playing games.
I wanted a HD projector under 1000$

here's my review:

Pros:
-Colors are great and accurate. Skin tones looks natural.
-Contrast is very good.
-I'm seeing details in the dark areas.
-Almost silent projector. (fan is very quiet even in Bright mode).
-The image is really bright (1600 lumens)
-Image looks uniform (a bit of noise in the black levels but you can barely see it).
-All the inputs that you need (1 HDMI, 1 Component, 1VGA, 1Svideo, 1,Composite).

Cons:
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING

(I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS PROJECTOR TO OTHER)

I wanted a new projector that had 1080p capablities and I almost bought one and Best Buy for $1500 and it was real big and heavy, but it was out of stock. I went home and looked on ebay for one. I found this Optima hd65 for $675 new. I thought is was a typo on the 1080p part. I went to the manufacturers website, and found that it was accurate. So I bought it along with a new ps3, 84" screen, 20' hdmi cable and still saved $300 by not buying the one at Best Buy. It works great, great picture. I even have a friend that is going to by one soon. There are only 2 small problems with it, 1 it makes a slight electric sound even when its off, and 2 if you put it in a small room it will heat the room up after a couple hours if the door(s) is closed. The first problem is minor and I do not know if it can be fixed, but the 2nd I think I figured out how. I have mine mounted on the ceiling so it is only about 8" away from the ceiling. I purchased a white plastic flexable rain gutter drain ($6) that can go 8" to 18" if streached all the way. I will mount one end into the attic and the other to the front of the projector. The size of the gutter drain is the same as the opening of the heat exhaust of the projector, about 2"x3" so hopefully that will do the trick. Also sence it is white like the projector, hopefully it will look factory.
If you put it in a big room you sould not even notice any excess heat. I have another projector in my living room and have no heat issues. Hope this will help someone out there!

  satisfied projector

projectors get less expensive. And every year, there is a projector that pushes the price/performance envelope, trying to give the consumer more for less. The HD65 is such a projector. This sub-$1000 powerhouse cranks out nearly 1200 ANSI lumens while maintaining good ANSI contrast and color balance. It is a perfect choice for watching HDTV programming, using video game consoles, or simply watching a movie with a few lights on. Placement flexibility is sub-par, but the HD65 has one big advantage going for it - it is highly portable. The HD65 lets you take HD theater out of the home and into the homes of your friends and family, allowing your single purchase to bring some entertainment into the lives of those around you.

  Optoma HD65 Delivers
Review created: 07/14/09

For under $1000 this little projector pacts a huge punch. Great picture with 720p native resolution and compatible to 1080p. Noise from the projector is very limited and completely unnoticeable when watching a movie or tv. I guess you would be able to hear it in the background noise if all you were doing was looking at pictures using your laptop while connected to the projector, but why would you misuse such a beautiful piece of equipment?
The one downfall of this projector is the extremely limited zoom capabilities. I find myself buying a screen to fit the projector when it should be the other way around. I should be buying whatever size screen I freakin' want and should not have to worry about whether or not it will be too big or too small in relation to the ability my projector has. This projector dictates the size of your screen based on the distance it is shooting from. But, for the price, in my opinion it is well worth it.
