This is another one of those "costume films" with Toby Stephens in it, for you Jane Eyre fans, or should I also say T.S. fans. Only this time we find our characters in Russia in costume but still speaking English which you have to make believe is Russian. Of course I bought this movie for the actors,who are not Russian, but I am also a fan of early Russian literature (after the Ice Age and definitely before Global Warming) so I am not THAT lame. Once again, I wanted to see Toby in a film, and he is younger here but very convincing in his part. It is a compelling film and I'm glad I now own it. It has some great horses and dogs in it and lots of books. That's always a bonus. But my question is, were they all real books?
