Anne George was the author of the humorous Southern Sisters Mysteries, but took a totally different route in penning this novel.
Death has brought Artie Sullivan's family to gather at her grand old mansion that over looks Mobile Bay & the Gulf of Mexico. Artie was known as a world famous artist and she was also a much loved daughter, sister and aunt who's spirit surrounds the family even after her death. As they gather they must all deal with dark secrets and bittersweet memories, but most of all, they must bring forward words unspoken. Artie's younger brother,Hektor, is devastated by her death, but it is Artie's twin, Donnie, who feels he has died with her. His wife, Mariel, is relieved to be released from her rival. Their daughter, Dolly, must face the fact that she has divorced a man she still loves and with her aunt's passing must contend with two heartbreaking things in her life. Artie has left Dolly her home, but to Dolly it is filled with the ghost of the past and the shame of the present. Artie's death has left a void in all that knew her. The Sullivans will each discover truths that have been long buried in this almost forbidden place of sorrow and love.
Ms. George has captured the intensity of the Sullivans. You are there...you are one of them. Splendidly written. I couldn't stop reading it. Two thumbs up for this intricate piece of drama.
