Very Readable

The NLT is very readable. The words flow together as if the Bible was written in English. In my experience there are only two other translations as readable (The Berkley Version [hard to find now] used by the Gideons for a while and the Contemporary English Version published by the American Bible Society).
While word for word translations are deemed by academics as more accurate, it is my opinion that they often make it difficult to follow the overall scope of the text. In my opinion too much attention is placed on individual words rather than on the idea the words are being used to convey. I realize that a mistranslated word can dramatically change the meaning of the text, this applies to any translation, not just this style.
For a day by day reading Bible for the average person this is a fantastic translation that will keep you coming back for more! If you are trying to get someone started in reading the Bible, why not use a Bible that is written to read rather than the more stilted word for word style translations.
I have never read a chronologically organized Bible before but have always wished I had one to read and now I do. I am looking forward to reading this Bible cover to cover in the next year. With the nice sized print I can sit down and read without straining my eyes!
