Donald Hamblen's Autobiography is a testament to not only the American Spirit, but also the Sprit of a driven human being. Although I grew up in the country, I learned a great deal about rural life, and the life in pre-WWII state of Maine. The indomitable spirit shown by this HERO Marine, is,well, lacking in a GREAT many of today's youth, a youth gone soft in body, as well as the head! I found this book fascinating, and the man made my determination to "Persevere under Duress" even greater. Fighting for what you believe in, and who you are, is the bottom line in this book. It's not a "war story" per se, but a SHINING Example of the GRIT that made this country great. I only wish I could tell Donald N. Hamblen, THANK YOU. THANK YOU for your Service ,and THANK YOU for your Sacrifice. When someone looks up the phrase "Tough As Nails", there is a picture of Donald N. Hamblen - ONE TOUGH MARINE. This book should be MANDATORY READING by every American and in every High School.
