Album Notes
Howard Jones' third solo album completely removes him from his beginnings as a synth-based one man band performing chipper, twinkling electro-pop tunes such as "New Song." Nearly two dozen musicians appear on ONE TO ONE, including strings, brass and R&B-style female backing singers.
Arif Mardin's slick, dance-y production on ultra-commercial yet undeniably exciting songs like "You Know I Love You, Don't You?" and "Don't Want to Fight Anymore" recalls his mid-'70s Bee Gees sides as well as his more recent work with Scritti Politti. Jones' songs and vocals place him somewhere between George Michael and the contemporaneous solo work of Phil Collins, the latter of whom also produced two tracks here. ONE TO ONE includes a bonus track, a lovely solo piano rendition of DREAM INTO ACTION's "No One Is to Blame," a radio hit in the summer of 1986 which had originally appeared on the vinyl-only remix EP ACTION REPLAY.
