When Eric Clapton hit the road in support of 2001's REPTILE, rumors abounded that this would be his last tour. If this hearsay turns out to be true, take consolation in the fact that the live 2-CD ONE MORE CAR, ONE MORE RIDER serves as a nifty souvenir from that particular string of shows. Benefiting from a crystal clear sound mix and a stellar back-up group whose members include keyboardists David Sancious and Billy Preston, Slowhand delivers a heavy mix of his most recent forays into contemporary adult pop and certain classic rock warhorses that would have benefited from early retirement. One result is Clapton doing a fine job wielding an acoustic guitar and shifting gears from laying into the Big Bill Broonzy stomper "Key To The Highway" to making like Gilberto Gil on the bossa-nova flavored instrumental "Reptile." Although the version of "Badge" included here shines and a different arrangement of "Cocaine" breathes some life into this Clapton standard, the umpteenth version of "Layla" would have been better substituted by a more obscure cut off the same album. Otherwise, Clapton's playing remains top-notch and spurs hopes that his days on the road haven't come to an end. Reviews Anything by Clapton is worth buying can't go wrong. This 2 cd set has a little of everything if your a clapton fan I would jump on it the shipping was very quick and simple Review ID: 10000000006690239 Was this review helpful? Report this review This live album has many special moments on it. The level of musicianship is outstanding but the band members really serve the interests of the whole and never give in to the 'ego-munchies' ("me burgers with I sauce"-G. Clinton). The over all vibe of the recording relaxed and fun. There is great respect for the music by the musicians. HOWEVER, the REAL reason I had to have this CD is what I consider the greatest vocal performance by Eric Clapton of all time on "River Of Tears"! Never have I heard Eric sing like this on any other song. He really makes a believer out of me on this one! Pure rythym and blues and soul and blood and sweat and tears! If you have never heard the live version of this song you must check it out. Eric really breaths life into the song by his emotional vocal performance. The band responds and the song takes on a life of its own. Eric, the performance of this song is very special. I treasure the moment. (Especially in view of the fact that the legendary Billy Preston is no longer with us.) Review ID: 10000000004263044 Was this review helpful?
