One Hundred Years of Collectible Jewelry by Lillian Baker (1978, Paperback)

I purchased this book for research. It provides pictures of general representations of the styles of jewelry and/or accessories from the period 1850 to 1950. There is price guide for the items pictured. The most important thing to know about this book is that it isn't a 'picture book'. It includes lots of terminology, facts, history and general information about jewelry and accessory items which have been used in the past focusing on the earlier pieces, not the glitzy items so popular in mid-century and later. If attaining more knowledge about the subject is your goal, this book would be a good investment for you.

I sell vintage jewelry and try to learn what I can. This book comes in handy when I am researching a piece. It has a very descriptive glossary of jewelry terms and types. That is my favorite and most used section of the book. It does have alot of photos that are helpfull in identifying pieces as well. The only thing not useful is the values. Book is a little out dated for that. If you use this book along with others I think you will find it usefull.

The book came as described. Fast delivery and exceeded my expectations. The book was very easy reading and I learned many new things from it. I love books on jewelry and making new discoveries. In fact one of the pieces I recent sold, if repaired is worth $35 and I sold it for $5-$6. The seller was very kind and helpful. The overall experience was just perfect.

I recently purchased this book in the hope of having just one more field guide, or even at the very least obtaining information I did not have. The pictures ministrations were not horrible ,but a little clustered. Most of the information was decent and for the price that I paid was actually a deal! Would I pay retail value for this book? No, not really. With a retail price tag of $9.00 I was able to spend $3.00 more and picked up Warman's Jewelry Field Guide at the local Barns and Nobel. All in all I would say this addition to my growing collection wasn't a bad $4.00 investment.

Book had amany desriptive photos, descriptions good. I collect jewelry as novic and feel it will help. Elaine
