Once upon a Potty by Alona Frankel (1999, Hardcover)

This is a very good potty training book for boys. (There is a girl version available also.) The language is frank (although not crude) which is necessary for a child of the age who is potty training to understand. It is reasuring and at times funny. There is an entire page of "and sat and sat and sat and sat and sat....." The potty in the book looks more like an old chamber pot than a modern children's potty, but the potties in the store look different from each other, too. We talked about this and it didn't confuse my child. He just found it interesting. Some of the words such as "wee-wee" are not words that we use, but we just substituted the words we use when reading the story. I would recommend this book.

I love this book, all of my nephews had it, and now I read it to my son. It's adorable and very helpful for potty training a little boy. Two Thumbs Way Up!!

Bought this to introduce my grandson to the whole potty idea. I have him 5 days a week. He loves the book and we have gone over it more times than I can count. The pictures and content are good for a 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 year old to relate to. This will not potty train him of course, but it will get him used to the idea.

I have had this book for all 5 of my childern. Boys & Gils versions are great. All body parts are pointed out. it is a little graphic but so is potty training. It is important to know all about these things. The book shows accidents happen and trying agian and agian. I dont like the part where the child takes the potty to mommy but i just skip that page because I do not want my kid running around with his poo in the potty to show me. Overall a great book to introduce the idea of potty training and to read while in the bathroom..trying to go.

i used the girl version to potty train my girls 15 and 10 years ago. now we have the pleasure of using the boy version to aid in the potty training of our son. it's such a sweet book! to the point without being overtly graphic. love it! so excited to use this classic book again!

I have a 2 year old son who is opposed to using the potty. I can't say that we have started using the potty since reading this book but it definetly has opened up a new subject of conversation. Something that was scary to him before has now become a thing to look forward to. He has gained more interest in the potty but still not sure about using it. I think that the more we read this book the more open he is becoming to the idea. I think this is a great book for starting to talk about using the potty and what body parts boys use to go potty. I would recommend this book.

Not a very appropriate book for potty training. Not realistic. Not up for the times. Old pictures, old "potty chair." I was disappointed.

I think this book is adorable. My 2 1/2 year old son loves it - and the fact that the name of the book is the same as my son makes it that much more enjoyable. It is great for anyone in the process of potty training their son!

I loved this book. I used both the girl and boy book with my first 2 and they were both potty trained before they were 2 years old. Works great! Works better if you also purchase the DVD, and a potty chair to match the book/movie which you can get as cheap as $10, nice, simple, and easy to clean. Highly recomended!!

I got this for my grandson who was resisting all efforts at potty training. He loves books and reading but he's a clever little character, so I thought I could outsmart him by getting him this book. He loved the book and enjoyed it very much. It helped a great deal but in the end HE decided when HE was ready, which was fine with the family! I'm just glad he liked the book, the price was great, and the condition of the book was perfect. He was happy and so was I!

I decided to buy this book because my previous child had it when he was little. With 13 years difference between the 2 children, I didn't have the old one. We absolutely love this book, it is a very helpful tool in the learning process of potty training. I recommend it highly!

I bought this book because I remember my aunt used this book to help potty train my cousins back in the 80's. The book is very direct and to the point, but my son looses interest fast. There is almost too much information. Maybe it is just too much for a 20 month old. I will maybe try again later to read it too him. In the meantime, I have bought a couple other books to try including "My Big Boy Potty".

My son,2, began using his potty the day we started reading this book. It was great. However I do not use the same words for our body parts as this book did so, I did a little re-arranging when reading this book.
