Don’t be scared away by critics

I did not read this book with my first baby because of all the bad reviews it had gotten. Many of my friends used it and swore by it. So the second time around I decided there would not be any harm in “just reading.” I was shocked to find the book very different from any of the criticism I had ever read, and in fact, most of the techniques they advice I had learned the hard way with my first child. Bottom line, I wish I had read it before my first baby arrived, it would have saved me and my baby a lot of grief. It is short, to the point and an easy book to read. I have read it several times and I am still to find anything that resembles baby torture, or argues for letting the baby scream… I am perplexed at the criticism.

I had heard about this book. I think it is an excellent resource for parents to be. I want my baby to be able to sleep through the night and need help with deciding on some kind of schedule. This book offers much research and reasoning WHY babies should not be fed on demand. I would recommend it.

This book has great information for establishing a routine and sleep for your baby. We have a 3 week old daughter and have followed this advice since we arrived home. I'm happy a friend told us about this book and look forward to our little girl sleeping through the night very soon!

  Blessing to me too!

I was introduced to this book by friends, actually business associates at the time. I worked as a child care provider and cared for children in a mixed age group setting. I cared for a number of children who's parents used and raved about how helpful this book had been for them. I wasn't a parent yet but I loved caring for their happy and adjusted infants. These children were on a set sleeping and feeding schedule; and with my caring for mixed ages of children....their ability to "fall asleep on their own" and not having to be rocked to sleep in complete silence and then do the tip-toe dance to their bed...was a blessing to me! Within a few years I began having my own children and I then read the book for myself! Best thing I could have done for myself, my children and my marriage!!

  Great gift...it really works
Review created: 09/05/09

I was extremely nervous about being a mother and breastfeeding, but with this book I was able to conquer those fears. I also bought it for one my friends who was having a difficult time getting her 11 week old to sleep during the night. After she read the book she called to tell me that her baby had slept through the whole night...for the very the first time! It's not as rigid as some say...it allows flexibility for growing babies:)

Very helpful in explaining my baby's behavior and sleep patterns. Does over simplify things a little though. Time line moves a little fast for me! Babysteps...

  Wonderful book, very helpful

This book is wonderful!!! Two sets of friends recommended this book to me during my pregnancy and they all swore by it. They described how well their children slept and just how pleasant they were in general. I didn't put much stock in what they had to say, so I didn't get the book. Then my daughter was born. She was an ok baby during the day, but every night she cried and was very unhappy. She was up to at least 11pm, sometimes at late as 12 or 1am, and she cried almost the whole time. I assummed she had colic. She would awaken at least 3-4 times a night. She had no schedule whatsoever. When she was 8 weeks old, I finally gave in and bought the book. I followed most of what the book had to say, tweaking it a little so it would work for me. Within 5 nights, she made a complete turnaround. She was going to bed at 10pm and sleeping through the night. During the day, she is so happy and pleasant. I lay her down and she falls asleep by herself during the day and at night. My daughter is now 5 months and she goes to bed by 9 and sleeps until 7am. In the last few months, she has woke up 1 time in the middle of the night. My husband and I are fanatics about the book, just like our friends. Some of the suggestions in the book may seem kind of strict, but I can only say that it works.

My baby slept through the night by 7 weeks
Review created: 02/18/09

I was very hesitant to use the strategies of this book, as a first time parent I really wanted to satisfy all the needs of my baby. Then as I read the book and applied its practices I realied I am satisfiying all her needs plus I am very much less stressed and she is happy and healthy. Now I am returning to work in a couple of weeks and I am glad that I can give my baby her last feeding and she is off to bed and rests all night long. The best thing is that when she is awake she is such a happy baby and very alert to her surronding. I think the routine explained in the book really helps her feel good and healthy which is what I really wanted.

Mother of five with #6 on the way!

This book was very encouraging to me. I read it after number 4 baby, and it answered a lot of questions I had already been figuring out by trial and error. Some things you may pick and choose from, but the basic concepts will give you peace of mind and practical advice. I found my son was so easy at naptime and bedtime, once he was in routine (2-3 months!). Believe me, it has much better nursing advice then I had received when I was "nursing on demand". That is stressfull on you and your family!

  Baby Wise

This book is a good Guideline for taking care of your infant. I say guideline, because every baby and every parent is different. Sometimes the "cookie cut" recipes for success need to be modified and tailored to fit the unique differences of the family, addressing flexibility and individuality are just as important as structure and schedule. Keeping this in mind while reading, one can definitely find success with Baby Wise.

Do research before using this book

As a mother of three and being heavily involved in my MOPS group, I get a lot of feedback from mothers. Many wish they had not read this book- it caused them a lot of guilt and extra stress. Also, there are many mothers I know who's first baby fit into Ezzo's schedule and then when the second baby came and did not fit into the schedule, they realized their first just happened to. Therefore, by the third, they have completely thrown out this program. Not everything is bad with Ezzo but what is unique to Ezzo is not good. The most informational website to do your research is www.ezzo.info The list of critics is overwhelming.
The most helpful book I found (which I did not read until my third child) is Elizabeth Pantley's No Cry Sleep Solution. It's a great idea book and you can create your own sleep plan that wokrs for your family and your baby.
