Great alternative for ipod or any other mp3 player.

I've extensively used iPods and find the m:robe different, but every bit as stylish but still functional.

I bought the m:robe 500i because I wanted something to store and easily show my digital photos. The 640x480 screen and 20GB hard drive is great for this. I wish it had direct USB connection capability to my camera, but I can't say it's a "con" because few do this.

I'm a huge music fan, but do not have a great need to walk around with music all the time, but do like to have the portability. After upgrading firmware and the m:trip software, I got the transfer process working well and find it acceptable. Songs may only by played by tranferring them via m:trip, which is a hassle.

That said, for $199, I don't think you'll find anything out there that can display photos with such a good screen and has a 20GB hard drive.

I find the touch screen is GREAT. Once in a while I have to tap it twice, but big deal. As far as fingerprints are concern, just wipe the screen once in a while with the sueade-like pouch. Hasn't anyone ever used a PDA? The response could be better as well. Sometimes advancing and playing is delayed while waiting for the hard drive.

I'm very satisfied with my purchase after one week and would recommend the m:robe. I hope Olympus releases a second generation. The touch screen offers many possibilities and the addition of video would by nice. It probably needs a processor and RAM upgrade for that.

Bottom line: If you want a portable JPEG picture viewer and good MP3 Player in a stylish 20GB package, the m:robe 500i is a good value

Its a shame when someone gets a defective product and acts like they are all like that! This is a great Player, It looks really nice, is still a small size compared to the size of screen, and is mostly easy to use. I would recommend reading the instructions to have the most hastle free time with this, and its software. The battery life is pretty good, but it can always be longer, and if you dont have the remote on lock, then it is easy to change tracks by mistake due to the touch screen. Easy fix though, just put it on info when playing tracks and you wont have a problem. Also with anything that looks so nice, you want always keep it clean, and can be done a lot seeming your always touching it. I would recommend a screen protector. The camera works pretty good in the daytime, but not at night. All in all it is pretty nice and I have been very happy with mine! A Lot of options for the price too!
