Olympus Stylus Tough 8000 12.0 Megapixel

I decided to purchase the Olympus 8000 mainly because it is waterproof. It seems to take quality photos underwater (as well as videos). I take it canoeing, snorkeling, hiking, fishing and other adventures. The water, sand and all the banging around I submit it to doesn't seem to phase it. I have yet to push the boundaries of it's 'toughness' but seems to hold up to advertised limits.
I do however like a camera that has a greater optical zoom than this one does. I suppose the lack of moving parts is a plus with waterproofing electronics. Other than that, it is good quality, compact camera. The 350-400 dollar price tag seems a little high in today's market, however the shockproof and waterproof features are worth it to me.

the camera works good so far. didn't take it in the water yet. it takes good pictures. a little bigger than some cameras but that would be expected.
only problem is that, you have to buy a special olympus memory card for memory

excellent cam, just what i needed and wanted. needed one like this for work, and play, and from the horror stories from other people about how they would drop their cam, I know that I'll have this one for a while.

I buy this camera because of all of the features it offers, including shocke resistant, crushproof,and waterproof. I have an Olympus Stylus 790 refurbushed that I alredy buy through ebay and it works very good but it finnaly die. So I decide to buy the new model that promises to be LIFEPROOF. Two weeks after receiving it I go to beach and I see water entering the camera through the battery compartment, the camera stop functioning and I have to send it back to Olympus... I'm still waiting for the camera :(

Just learning the camera and we are impressed. It seems to be very sturdy. Price was the motivating factor.

Love the waterproof use and toughness of the camera....I can say that I have accidentally tested both and it came through like a champ! Not too sure about the menu of scene settings, they can be a little painful to get set up quickly for a spur-of-the-moment type shot but are effective to use for good pictures in any setting I have used it in. Although I am not a Technical Photographer (Most of us aren't) and am not into the "Perfection" of photography, I am however very impressed with the clarity and quality of the pictures. Love this camera!

I decided on the Olympus Stylus Tough 8000 because a friend had the 6000. Most of my free time is around water so I decided to go with the best. I like taking it with me when I fish, great underwater pics. Now my friend and brother-in-law are going to purchase an 8000. I am very pleased with the purchase.

Pros: great rugged camera. Very useful in outdoor especially in water sport activities. I like the idea to charge internal battery directly from wall outlet, no anymore bulky external power converters. Pictures are very nice. I like very much panoramic feature with automatic frame stitching software.

Cons: a bit complicated for intermediate user like me. Because of weight and size it is easy to loose it, so put floating strip on in the water parks!

I love the fact that I can use my camera in, out and on the water. The only think I would prefer would be a more powerful zoom. This camera dos not zoom very much at all.

I like the quick change to macro.
I also like the seals. I can put this into my pocket without dirt geting in.

Great package deal. Presented legimately and professionally. Turned out to be everything it seemed. Camera is great underwater and pictures are clearer than most digital cameras that are not water proof. Already dropped it several times and still works like a charm because of its shock and pressure resistance.

We got this camera to take on two summer trips: Glacier National Park and Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. In both instances this camera came through like a champ. It got banged around in packs and canoes, used in a waterfall and generally abused on both of those trips and it handled it all just fine. The only marks on the camera are a couple of tiny nicks on the display screen, nothing that affects picture quality or usability.

We have also been very impressed with the features on the camera. The zoom isn't the greatest, but on the 12mp setting, you can zoom in on the picture just fine after you've taken it and even things far away have decent detail. The various settings are very helpful as is the display mode that divides the screen into thirds to help with perspective. Only complaint here is the auto-focus can be a little wonky at times, but that hasn't been any major problem.

On the whole I would gladly recommend this camera for people who want a decent digital camera to take into risky situations but don't want to risk damaging a higher end digital camera. Well worth the $300 I spent on it!

I used to have the older Stylus Waterproof Camera, and this is definitely an upgrade! 12 MP, a fantastic LCD display, endless settings, and waterproof and shockproof for the toughest of treatment. All I would have to say that is negative about this camera is it takes a lot of TLC to maintain the waterproof ability, as I found out when my last Olympus Waterproof camera took on water fairly easilyu when I let it take some rough treatment. I also suggest getting LCD covers to keep the LCD screen from being scratched up. As far as camera use, I've had difficulty finding the correct settings to take pictures at night, as most of the night pictures I've taken have turned out grainy or blurry. All in all though, this camera is tough, and I would buy it again, just make sure you give it TLC like any other camera. Although it is TOUGH, it definitely is not invincible.

I simply LOVE this little camera. If you are looking for basically an indestructible camera, this is the camera for you. Sure, the photo quality suffers a little bit in high ISO, low light conditions. Sure, the flash is a little hot when you are in dark areas, but for daylight, underwater, run around town photography, this thing just rocks. I love the photos it takes. I love being able to hand it to an 8 year old kid and say "have fun!" and not even worry about it. If you are considering a point and shoot that will see some underwater time, don't hesitate. It is awesome.
