  Olympus Stylus 1050SW review
Review created: 12/15/08

PRO: Very easy to use, with semi-Pro capabilities, getting the wife trained to use only took a day and was successful. Much better than last camera which always left her confused. Takes great pics. Accessories can be found cheap.

Con: Great for her little hands, but awkward for my big hams. Also a bit slippery, probably like trying to hold a greased pig in the rain. No slip surfaces could have been placed decoratively and functionally on the camera. Would strongly advise a float be attached around water. Battery life a bit short even with 1100mAh batteries.

Olympus Stylus 1050SW is an excellent camera

One of the 1050SW's i bought, previously owned, has an issue with the cable for transfering pictures to the computer. But i can avoid the problem by transfering images directly from the card. I bought a second one, new, for my girlfriend, which works perfectly.
You can be as clumsy as you like with this camera. It handles drops and water with ease. There's plenty of camera here to grow into. Expect it to take a little time to get to know this cameras functionality and for the effort to be well worth it. Enjoy!!

  Too many moving parts...
Review created: 04/04/09

It took me about 2 days to figure out that the Stylus 1050SW and I were not made for each other. And I'd like to start by saying that this review is meant only to express my opinions on the camera, and not to bash the product. After all, it does (and is) what it promises to be. I have two things on which to comment that made our fit less than perfect. First, in my opinion, the integrated cover on the front of the camera is a needless addition. It's fragile enough to snag on the loose thread in my camera case, and on more than one occasion (mind you, I only used the camera for 2 days) the sliding cover opened halfway while being put into the case. This may be the fault of my case, but the sliding shutter expresses an innovation that seems more inline with pleasing aesthetic more than with durable functionality. I'd expect it on a less durable camera, like the ones used by my nieces to take pictures for their facebook pages, and not one touted as a tough camera. Second, the tap function (that one that allows you to move between menus) kept engaging itself during the most inopportune times. Inadvertent taps during picture shoots would send the camera into a series of LCD menus and break the moment with insistent requests. I know that this option probably is a good fit for those who wear gloves, and I know that had I delved a little deeper into the instructions I could have turned this option off. So I guess this last complaint is reflective more of my age and grumpiness than any problem with the camera. But maybe you're like me. Maybe you just pine for a camera you can use right out of the bag without having to sit for hours to learn the menus. I'm nostalgic, but I think there's somthing to be said with "less = more."

  Great Camera +++

I love this camera, althoguh I'm still trying to figure out the tap technology. With two batteries fully charged, you are good to go all day. I bought it for a ski trip where temperatures were around 15-20 degrees F and the camera held true to its promise of not freezing up. I also never worried about getting snow on it or dropping it in the snow on accident. The only isue I had was it only comes with Eurpoean outlet charger. I had to spend another $50 for a universal charger that would adapt to north american power outlets. No biggie really, still a good camera.

It has great features. Like the tap its great for me especially when i have my gloves on. Just tap the side to review your recent pictures ive taken. One of the best underwater/shockproof cameras.
Great Product

Olympus Stylus S/W shock and water proof! The only one!
Review created: 01/22/09

This camera is awesome, for price, quallity, easy to use and live accident proof!
This is my second olympus model, i have the first model 771sw, and used for almost a year without any problem, i used under water at least once a week and never, never a single problem, and it was on the beach... so i decide to try the next model and is even better. Really easy to use, and better quallity picture.... and best of all i don't care who is using the camera, i don't feel the fear anymore of somebody is going to drop my camera to the floor or water! really nice!
So try it, give olympus SW a chance. I used to be a Sony camera lover, but not anymore, since my last camera SW, this camera is excellent!
Battery last for days...
i will recomend this product.
So buy it and enjoy it!

  small but not too tiny

Loved the size, perfect for a woman's purse, and any man's shirt pocket, haven't tried the waterproof thing yet but it's very easy to use, i just set it to auto and let the camera do her thing (and does a great job). No need for technical stuff.. as a matter of fact haven't read the manual yet, so maybe someday when i want to do something more advanced i will.. video is great too, easy to download to computer, user friendly. Sound isn't that great tho, but it's not that bad either, let's say is a 7 out of 10. But i loved this camera, so sleek and the 10MP is a plus!

One thing annoys me, when taking out battery to charge the camera turns on because the ON/OFF button is right where you grab the camera to be able to handle battery, so if you have big fingers.. it can be tricky.. and i don't even have big fingers, go figure! guess it's a matter of time til i get used to it. but yea, loved it!

Olympus Stylus 1050SW 10.1 Megapixel Digital Camera
Review created: 05/05/09
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The Olympus Stylus 1050SW digital camera is a very affordable, compact, and user friendly camera. It offers many options and high mega pixel performance in a waterproof package that fits in your pocket. I especially like the "SCN" settings for help with the proper setting for different types of shots. I had very good success with night shots and landscapes during a recent trip to Hawaii. The rechargeable battery holds a charge for a reasonable amount of time and exposures. The only feature that I wish was on this model would be an optical view finder which helps during both sunny outdoor and dark indoor shots when the viewing screen is difficult to see. I have older model Canon and Sony digital cameras with the optical view finder and I use that feature often.

  Olympus Camera

Excellent travel camera! Got it one day before I left for a surf trip to Mexico so I didn't have time to read directions. Got an extra battery and 2GB card and I am happy with the massive memory capacity and the shockproof / water resistant / freeze resistant capabilities. Haven't tried the video yet. The only thing I am not happy with is the lousy 3X zoom - I was expecting more zoom capability, which is the main reason for the "Good" rating instead of excellent. Fortunately, with the 10.1 MP, zooming in after the fact can be done keeping the picture property integrity. Great camera to have in your pocket for knocking around. Great gift for a son or daughter.

Excelent camera for going to the beach, mountain or dusty places, a little pricey but very resistent. On the bad side, the pictures are regular, and at the night is very image noise.

I bought this point and shoot camera for the portability of the product. Very nice point and shoot camera. I have an SLR that I also use, but wanted to buy one that I could put into my purse that was easy to use and that takes great pictures. I have owend 2 other olympus cameras before and always had very good results with those. This is a well made camera with nice features.

  Very Satisfied
Review created: 04/06/09
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The Olympus 1050SW is a very good digital camera. It does exactly what it says it does - takes very good pictures and is shock resistant (up to a point) and waterproof (up to a point). For me, a person who likes the outdoors, I was looking for something that would withstand the elements (within reason). I got exactly that. The zoom could be a bit better, and the resolution on the LCD screen leaves a bit to be desired, but taking underwater shots and pictures in the rain couldn't be easier. I have yet to try the tap feature underwater but it made taking pictures easy with gloves on. You need to realize what you are buying - this is not an indestructible camera, but you will not be disappointed if you're expectations are realistic. I really like the panorama feature, but you need the xD card for it to work. It creates a panorama by combining the pictures in your phone - a really nice feature. I would recommend this camera to anyone.

This camera appears to be built tough your supposed to be able to drop it from five feet without damage. It is slow to focus and cycle on flash picture quality is good. I bought it for taking pictures ducking hunting in the rain and snow. I think I would recommend this to someone for outdoor use.

Easy to use (once you get used to the menu). Takes great pictures, water-proofing is awesome (just wash off the dust)! Panorama feature is great (automatically takes the picture).

Only downside is that some features require an Olympus xD memory card.

I bought this camera so I can take pictures of my children at the pool and beach. I also bought this because my wife and I take children from our church ( with other adults ) to the beach and I love taking pictures of them having fun at the beach while in the ocean. This camera is much better then my older Olympis underwater camera because I can turn it on and off much faster as well as operate it by just tapping differant sides of the camera.

I love the quality of the images that it captures. The waterproof feature is nice too if you have kids especially. It is a rugged little camera that would siut just about anyone or any level of photography. It is not a highly capable camera for zooming in at long distances but for a "pocket Camera" it is a great choice!

The olympus stylus is an awesome camera. Underwater and shook proof is always a plus especially when you might drop it accidently in water or on the ground. I know I won't have to get a new camera for a very long time!

another best product of olympus
Olympus is the leader in making a lasting camera, making it strong enought to withstand shock, water and ice without sacrificing the quality of its pictures. I have received this package and tried it around the house. The 10 megapixel realy shows a lot of difference by the quality of its pictures. All of the features of this camera is the same with a more expensive one. This camera will be a great vacation camera. Small enought to fit the pocket and you can bring it with you fishing or swimming in the ocean or by the water park easy to use and the brand says it all. Olympus.
