I bought the E-420 because of its low price compared to point and shoot cameras. It has all the standard settings of a DSLR with the lightweight and portability of a p&s. The standard Zuiko 14-42mm lens that comes with it is crap but will definitely hold you over until you do get another one. The camera is also compatible with older OM system lenses when you use the proper adapter. I am very happy with this camera and do look forward to trying other Olympus DSLR cameras in the future.

An amazing camera for a starter or amateur photog

When I fist bought an Olympus E-500 I was amazed at the capabilities of such an affordable camera. It has a good few preset modes for anyone who is looking to jump straight into shooting without having to crack open the direction or have a few hours in a photography class. It's Eight Megapixel design also shoots amazing pictures considering most professional camera's are double that. Then Olympus turns around and creates its E-x20 series. Which took the Evlot to another level by adding two additional Megapixels and Live View, which in my opinion, adds the friendliness of a point and click camera.

As for its semi-professional side it does have quiet a few adjustable settings that will give anyone who needs and knows how to adjust shutter speed, F-stop, and exposure the ability to do so. As far as what it compares to a camera that will cost you around twelve hundred, this camera that starts at three hundred is more then enough for any family or amateur photographer.
