I have been using this scanner for about a month now. I have scanned in about 200 pictures (negatives). So far the scanner has been great. Very easy to use and setup. It usally takes me about 5 minutes to scan in a 36 exposure roll of negatives. The quality of the prints are great as well. This was definately a great buy and would recommend it to anyone. So far I have no negative comments that I could make about it.

  Great deal for the money.

This scanner was very inexpensive. It is fast and produces good scans, maybe not poster quality but still good. I am happy with this purchase.

The only real problem I have is that the software lightens the scan too much sometimes, especially when the slide was deliberately underexposed to make the colors pop. The software tends to wash these slides out and make them boring to look at. And when trying to darken overexposed slides, the software is extremely limited in its range of lightening/darkening.

  It's not good or bad!

This little device does digitize 35mm slides but the quality is pretty poor. The size of the digital print is very small. The color transfer is poor. Using a photo enhancing software can help but you don't have much to start with.
It is easy to install and use but if you want quality color prints from 35mm slides it would be better to save your money and use one of the many on-line transfer services.

  film to digital scanner
Review created: 02/02/10

Take a 35mm negative or slide, scan it and presto it is saved to a file on your PC. Easy process, reasonable price, choice of quality. Software provided to clean image dust, brush, etc.

Cons:
At the highest quality setting it takes some time to accomplish this feat. Overall quality needs some improvement but adequate for personal requirements. You have to be concious of the fact that dust is constantly a concern.

Overall it is worth the effort. You have control over your own negatives. Save them to a flash drive and they are safe from PC crashes.

  Becoming Digital
Review created: 01/16/10

Now that Family Picture Albums are rapidly becoming a thing of the past, we're all scrambling to attempt to get our old pics into our computer slide shows. This scanner works well to scan both KodaChrome and 35mm Negatives.

The difficulty, however is not in the unit but in acquiring a quality software program to process the pics after you get them into digital format. 35mm negatives present the real problem with a bluish cast from the orange film and the gamma correction requirements to end up with a decent pic from the scanned images. Although this unit does come with scanning software to at least capture the images, it is not come quality software to process the scans and make gamma corrections and color adjustments.

That being said, it's a good price on ebay for the scanner...
Better software is available on the web... I've heard Vuescan is pretty good from looking at several revues and web tutorials but have not spent the money to try it yet. Software will probably cost you as much as the scanner. Without decent software, the 35mm pics that you want from your family album won't be as good as your cell phone.

Price was right so I decided I really couldn't go wrong. Relatively compact unit; following instuctions and downloading software the unit does a good job.
Scanning slides can be time consuming project at 3 slides per set up. I found the color enhancement and clarity adjustments were easier to do as a secondary effort using my computer software rather than the Olympus software.

Defective and a Waste of Money

I love the idea of this product and that's why it was an important purchase for me. However, the scanner does not work, and when I tried to contact the seller, he could no longer be contacted from his email address. I'm unable to review a scanner that is defective.

  SVP 35 mm slide scanner
Review created: 01/08/10

I had actually purchased a 35 mm scanner from an ebay user via Silicon Valley Peripherals. What I liked about the item I had purchased was that it worked. What I didn't like about the item was the fact that the size slide that I had was 127 Super Slide, and if I put the slides on the scanner tray, it cropped the picture. The slide scanner was only made for 35 mm slide sizes. I realize that there are other scanners out there that can scan other slide sizes, but I was wanting to purchase a slide scanner that would be adjustable or flexible with any slide size that is out there. I am not happy that manufacturers who make slide scanners only cater to the popular 35 mm slide size, and not other slide sizes that have become obsolete. If there is anyone out there who knows of a company that does manufacture slide scanners for slides like 127, let me know.

  Digital photo scanner
Review created: 01/08/10

I purchased the Olympus Digital Photo Scanner to convert 30 years worth of slides to digital print files. The scanning of slides with this scanner was easy enough, but I was not satisfied with the quality of the scans. This didn't bother because I thought that the soft ware that came with the scanner would allow me to correct the overly dense or dark slide scans that I received. After repeated scans of different slides and repeated attempts at using the included software, I decided that this particular scanner and soft ware was not performing as a level of ease and quality that I was looking for.

I ultimately returned the scanner and soft ware hoping to receive some sort of refund. After several weeks I have not yet received any sort of credit.

I am currently look at purchasing an Epson V500 Flat Bed Scanner to allow me toobtain better quality of scans. The Epson V500 reviews seem to indicate that I will receive a better quality of scan of slides and that their software should be easier to work with. Some reviews also indicate that a Canon 8800F also is a flat bed scanner that many persons have had good results with.

The quality of my slides that I would like to scan should be of a reasonable level being as I have been taking photos for over 30 years and have processed my own prints and enlargements for a like period of time.

I'm not bad mouthing the vender, I merely did not get the type of results that I was hoping to obtain.

  Great inexpensive product

I purchased the product to digitize our large 35 mm slide collection. The scanner worked great and was inexpensive. Since the slides were old and we haven't seen them since 70's, it was enjoyable to look at each while scanning.

Good buy at a fair price. Needs capacity for loading more slides at a time, also a more user friendly method. Software feature of being able to add text on the resulting photo is great.

  NOT GREAT
Review created: 01/04/10

The new scanner I purchased does not produce good results. It appears to have a "hot" spot in the center of the lense that produces a brighter image in the center of the scanned slide and a darker circle affect around the edges. I would not recommend it for slide scanning.

Olympus Digital Photo Studio Film Scanner (35 mm)
Review created: 12/07/09

This scanner allows me to finally make copies of some old slides that I had laying around for years. I also had some 35mm film strips from years ago and was able to make prints of them since the photos were all stuck together because of the humidity.

The scanner works great for both slides and 35mm film strips and is a welcomed addition to my computer accessories and is used frequentky without any problems.

I would highly recommend this product to anyone that is a film collector or to anyone that has some old slides laying around and does not have a slide projector to view them.

Rather than use the old time consuming method of scanning each and every picture with a scanner, this product cuts that time way down since the picture appears instantly without the "warming up the lamp" message you usually get when using a scanner.

It arrived quick. It has been working great! I have already transfered a lot of slides over to digital. The price I paid was cheaper than buying it at a store.

I like many others have thousands of slides and want to put them to disk without a great expense and the "Olympus Digital photo scanner" did the job without braking the bank. This was a great value.
