Desent camera for the time being

This is a desent camera, bought for taking pictures for ebay items. It works for the time being but i dont recommend it forever. Its an item for yeah to afford right now until something better. The reasons I dont like it. It sucks up batteries. With the camera off, if you leave batteries in it, the camera will use them up AND THIS IS WHEN ITS OFF!!!! I gone though so many double AA's that I had to buy rechargeable ones. Also I dont really care for taking pictures up close for items I put on Ebay, I zoom in and out to get better focus but its not 100%. I think this camera is great for starting out, but not for all the time use.

  Omigosh! This camera is awesome!!!

Well!I bought the Olympus CAMEDIA 5.0 mp camera because my Olympus CAMEDIA 2.0 had been dropped on the floor too many times and the batteries were taped in. Meanwhile, it still takes awesome pictures, but having the batteries pop out all the time was a pain since we use it in our rather busy ebay business.

I purchased the CAMEDIA 5.0MP figuring that I didn't need any more than 5.0 MP since I didn't plan to print anything larger than 11 x 14". This camera was so easy to use, I was amazed. It was even easier than the CAMEDIA 2.0.

You can select Nightshots, Portraits, Landscapes, macro, Backlit, etc etc. and they all work fabulously well. I took the camera on a recent vacation to Greece and I was really nervous about the shots since we only go every 10 years to Greece and wanted to photograph some aging relatives.

I tested out all of the various modes and found that my night shots on Mykonos were just awesome. Every one of my photos looks like a postcard and the subjects are even portrayed in a flattering way. No fancy settings...no hassle! I used to teach photography using a 35MM camera and always felt that you sacrificed some quality when you switched to a digital camera, but no more.

Downloading was easy and fast. I took my laptop to Greece and downloaded my pictures everyday. I then sent them online to protect them from airport xrays and from me losing the camera and the computer with all of my fab pictures. I loved reviewing the shots daily on my laptop.

Back in the ebay workshop, my assistants were able to transfer to this camera easily with no instruction from me (and they are not the most savvy people in the group!). Details come up great on our listings with no effort.

The camera is light weight which helps, but it isn't so small that I can't hold it (I have large hands for a woman...sometimes if a camera is too small, I can't operate it properly..and it doesn't balance very well...) Great balance, ease of operation...very few goofs.

I will be selling all my fancy camera equipment on ebay to those people who insist that their lenses are superior to the digital technology available today. NFMM!! (Not For My Money!) I'm on my way to purchase a couple more of these little gems so that we can have one at home for days when I don't feel like going to my ebay store and one for the family.

If you want to read technical reviews, I'm sure that someone has written them. This review is totally from a practical, empirical point of view and I hope it helps.

The Olympus Camedia D 595 Zoom...Is it really worth....
Review created: 01/03/06

The Olympus D 595 zoom camera is a pretty good consumer camera. If all you would like to be is like a walking tripod then this camera would fit the bill. If you would like to be more than a walking tripod this is a good camera to learn on then go from there. I have one of these cameras and it is the first camera that I have ever owned. It wasn't too expensive and it has been really great working with this camera. In fact I have taken many good pictures with this camera and I have been really pleased with it. I am now ready to move onto a more professional camera since I have had and learned how to use this one. Photogaraphy is a very fun and exciting art and I feel that I have done well with this camera. I am glad that I was able to learn how to use a digital camera and this was an excellent camera to start off with. You don't want to start off with a camera with too many bells and wistles. If you think that you would like to try your hand at photography I think that this camera will work well because it is a simple camera to use. If you find that you aren't into photography after trying it won't be a big mistake owning this camera first.

  Olympus D-595 Digital Camera

Wife owns a D-595, and likes it a lot, so I decided to buy one on E-Bay for my son. Camera works on both AAs and Lithium ion batteries (get rechargeables), and takes a good number of shots with either. Note: Litiums don't drain as fast as AAs so are to be preferred. The LCD is only 1.8" which is small compared to the 2" and 2.5 inch screens that you find on digitals nowadays but is perfectly adequate. One thing I like about the D-595 is that it has an optical viewfinder. Today's cameras seem to have eliminated these, probably for cost reasons, but they are a definite plus in sunny conditions when the LCD washes out. Also I think you get sharper pictures with a viewfinder since you have to hold the camera away from your body if you're framing your shots using the LCD. Another plus on this camera is the macro which lets you take really sharp closeups of tiny objects. All in all, I recommend this camera.

Nice size, numerous features, compact design, easy to read and understand the features, but I must admit that the price was "RIGHT ON TIME!" a quality product that when I referred to the consumer digest's comments of "quality" product- they were correct- in summary- a good deal, an item that I stand behind and would endorse..

  Great camera for any situation.

I initially bought this camera because it is one of the few affordable digital cameras that can take video with sound. The video is neither crisp, nor is the sound quality excellent, but when you need a video camera to capture memories that a simple photograph can't...this will fill that need none the less. I like to carry my camera with me often, and this is my 3rd digital camera since they were made available to buy. There are so many features and different options for scenes that anyone using this camera can become a half decent photographer pretty quickly. If you use cheap batteries, they will die quickly. this camera only uses 2 AA batteries at a time, so keep the rechargeables charged when you're planning on using this camera. Also, be sure to buy "Olympus Brand" XD memory cards so you can use the panoramic feature that only Olympus cards will allow. This was the best $200 I've spent in a long time. I will be looking at Olympus Cameras again when it comes time to buy a new one.

  The Perfect Beginner's Camera
Review created: 06/18/06

This camera is perfect for someone just beginning in digital photography or anyone who wants good, quality pictures taken in a variety of circumstances with easy-to-manage settings, and no bagful of accessories to tote around. When you factor in price, this camera can't be beat.

You can take pictures from an inch away to hundreds of feet - thanks to the 2 different zoom modes. Pictures turn out great whether you're inside or out, day or night. It takes a little practice, some trial and error, and then you're on your way. You can adjust settings to Auto, and it'll take care of everything, or if you want to adjust a little or a lot of it yourself, you can switch it to Manual, and tweak the aperature, white balance, shutterspeed and more. The LCD screen is large enough to see comfortably, and the camera is small and light weight enough you can carry it in your purse.

Keep in mind, there is a panoramic option on it as well - but it ONLY works if you buy an OLYMPUS memory card. I missed that in my first read-through, and bought a Fuji memory card. I'll get an Olympus card sometime so I can play with the panoramic function, but right now it's not a priority. One other recommendation - invest in a couple sets of rechargable batteries and a charger (total bill was $25 at radio shack) and ensure you never run out of battery juice.

For the price, ease of use and photo quality, you'd be hard pressed to find a better value for your buck.

  Great camera if under $100

I have to say, I CUT MY PHOTOGRAPHY TEETH on CASIO and OLYMPUS Cameras
I was much more impressed with Olympus's earlier cameras like the C-4000 and even older the D500 and D600 even though they were lower megapixel, the optics made up for it in major ways. I was amazed being able to make 8x10's from the D500 even though no place recommends making them from that low of megapixels.
I have had my D595 for a little over 24 hours now and have to say it works as it should, however, I think Olympus has changed their dependancy on fine Optics to depending on software to process picture quality. I took a couple dozen 5 megapixel pictures and opened them on the pc at 100% of size and they seem kinda grainy. sure if you just look at them smaller (like the picture fills up the screen of the pc is probably 25% of full size.) they are fine. If your just putting stuff on the web, taking pictures for 8x10's or smaller, then this camera is a great deal.

  Excellent Starter Digital Camera
Review created: 01/09/08

Bought this camera for my grandson for Christmas. All features are easy to understand and use. Picture quality has been just superb, including the stop action sports setting. Olympus has just the best lens quality there is, in my opinion. We have not been disappointed with one feature of this small, convenient digital starter camera for our 11 year old. An excellent choice and a great buy on ebay.

I bought the CAMEDIA D 425 camera (please note this is not the D 595 5.0) and was immediately impressed with the number of features available on this camera. It is a 4.0 megapixel camera that captures video as well. The camera's size is perfect for carrying in a pocket. My only complaint is i did not realize the battery did not come with the camera. As goes to show ask all questions before placing a bid. Overall, I'd recommend the camera.

  Great Camera, Great Photos
Review created: 07/09/06

This camera is a excellent value. It takes great pictures. I purchased this camera because I have had lots of sucess with Olympus products. I like it's small size, ease of use, and very simple download of photos. I also own an FE 115, that I do not like as well. The FE is much slower than this camera, and the photos are not as clear, although the FE 115 is still a great camera. For the cost, either of these small cameras are great, but I prefer the D 595.
