The Old Man and the Sea - newer version

My husband and I fell in love with the old version with Spencer Tracy when we were in college. I thought I'd get him the new version since he also likes Anthony Quinn. The new version seems to spend a lot more time on the beach with the character who is supposedly Hemingway. It switches back and forth from the old man's fight with the fish to what's going on with the people on shore. Though it was a good movie, it doesn't compare with the original for action and detail and what the old man went through to bring in the fish. It lacks the intensity of the older version. My husband and I still prefer the original classic.
