The Official Vintage Guitar Magazine Price Guide 2008 (2007, Paperback)

Picked the book up with rather high hopes but once I started looking through it I was dis-appointed. There isn't very much useful information included. Also the pricing seems to be way off from my real market experiences.

No color pictures and no information on the Chinese scam guitars that are currently flooding the market. Would be nice to have a chapter on authenticating current high dollar guitars. Seems as though the guide was just thrown together as the price ranges for most brands don't really differentiate between models. Just generic price ranges and there are many manufacturers that don't even list prices such as Washburn, Lotus and many other popular brands.

Perhaps I was expecting too much as I have been into collectibles for many years and have seen Price Guides in all fields come and go. In my opinion the $$$ spent would have been better used buying a few sets of strings.

My Martin Guitar the "Custom 15" made in the 90's as a predesesor to the HD28V
was not listed. It ws a regular item in the Mandolin Bros. catalog for the years it was made. This was the main reason I bought the book, and was dissapointed it was ommited.

The prices are not in line with actual market selling prices. Some guitars are valued too high and some too low making it a guessing game as to actual value.
Its ok, but should be refined and updated to reflect current market pricing.

Very informative and complete guid for the guitarist looking to save time and hassle over what is the ballpark price of many vintage instruments. I found this magazine to be a superb source for that very type of basic information that I intended to have upon purchase.

I bought this book to learn more about differences in guitars. This book has information on thousands of different guitar models with additional sections on amplifiers and other instruments. It has a bit of information on the manufacturers like history and contact information. It has a very good introduction with a section on supply and demand.
It does not have as much information as the Blue Book (best known for the car price guides) series of price guides Electric Guitars, Acoustic Guitars, and gear. But the price is much more reasonable for a starting point.
Unlike the Blue Book, this price "guide" structure is weighted to well cared for guitars. The contributors are mostly guitar chains and store owners. Some of the ads promote guitar collecting as an investment which to me is troublesome. Both price guides seem to reflect retail store prices.
The book has useful information to help with the selection of a guitar. I recommend it as an information guide. When using the price information read the basis for the prices in the guide.

This book is great i.e. it has a wealth of information on Guitars but unlike most books where you have one for electrics or acoustics this bad boy covers all bases including amplifiers, electric and acoustics and effects pedals great book to have with you when you are looking around pawn shops for premium items.
