This movie is a "10" beautiful and a great depiction of true depression(on the funny side}Wonderful cast, all of them. This movie is about what a movie should leave one with after watching, happiness, wonder and all else humans carry around inside themselves. SEE IT.

Love touches even the lost soul.

Excellent flick. Perhaps an appropriate phrase for this film would be--when live serves you lemons, make lemonade. No matter how remote, desolate, and despairing one may think one's life, it is not the end of the world. All of us are important, and can joyously add our spirit for the good of all. High recommendations.

Sam Elliott Amazing in Off the Map
Review created: 07/02/08

The movie `Off the Map' might be a little slow paced, and the dialogue may be better suited to a play (as it originally was) than a movie, but Sam Elliott makes it worth seeing. Playing against type, Sam Elliott is vulnerable and affecting as a clinically depressed husband and father. He is an underrated and undervalued actor who deserves more opportunities outside of the Western/tough guy genres.

We had rented the movie so well, that we decided to buy it, at an inexpensive price. We have really enjoyed the movie and it is a family movie.

This has got to be one of the MOST memorable films I have ever seen. I dream of living off the grid in a self sufficient manor, and the family in this film is doing this with a poetic grace, and in a very profound manner. I held my breath a few times at the stunning visuals of the New Mexican desert.
After watching this movie I started it all over and watched it again! After my 2nd veiwing I got online to purchase this movie for my own film library. It was directed by Campbell Scott, and if this is the kind of movie he can create he should be directing ALL the movies, and not just the art films.
I rate this as high as I can rate a film. It made me want to melt onto the screen and join in the lives of these characters. I wish I had such a life.

How could you not love a movie that has no violence, just lots of love in a family and a outsider. Loved it and felt so good after watching it.

  Top Ten for me
Review created: 02/02/08

Director Campbell Scott and the entire cast are brilliant in what I think of as a perfect celluloid meditation.

A truly enchanting New Mexico desert back drop sets the stage for a highly intelligent, entertaining film that focuses on a few summer months in the lives of a rather unique family.

The movie leaves you feeling refreshed, uplifted and happy - what more could you ask? Well, how about introspective and enlightened?

The film never misses a beat; there is not one scene that drags or becomes tedious, even upon many viewings. This is an absoulute must-own for the few and the proud that can't abide the action films, stupid comedies or just plain tasteless offerings of the major studios.

I LOVE this film! Director Campbell Scott did a superb job as well as all the actors(i.e. Sam Elliot, Joan Allen, J.K. Simmons, Jim True). This movie is very hard not to watch (as soon as you see it, your addicted). My Favorite part is when Bo is upset about George (J.K. Simmons) moves to Mexico after marrying a hispanic woman that does not speak English. Also I like...I just love the whole movie...it is a must see!

If you are looking for a movie that takes you to a new place, this is the one.
Their are movies that are still being made about the simple things in life. A persons dreams and realities can come true and you don't have to go far to find them. This movie proves that you can sail around the world and never leave home. Isn't that what dreams are for ? Peter Pan did it so can you. watch the movie, have fun.
