Odd Thomas (Dean Koontz)

The Odd Thomas series is one of my all time-favs!!!

Odd Thomas has it all, a likeable head character, a great supporting cast and a superb storyline.

I purchased Odd Thomas after reading the first chapter in Maxim magazine, I had to wait a month for the book to come out, but it was well worth the wait.

Odd Thomas will grab hold of you and pull you in. You will not be able to put it down.

Final Verdict:

Borrow or Buy: A Definate Buy!!! This book is great whether you are a fan of Dean Koontz or not.

Be sure to check out Forever Odd and the upcoming Brother Odd (December, 2006).

PLEASE VOTE IF YOU FIND THIS REVIEW HELPFUL. Thank you.

A riveting read from start to finish.

One of my all-time favorites by Koontz. Odd Thomas, a nondescript short-order cook at the Pico Mundo Grill, is an unlikely hero with a gift. Odd’s charming self-effacing humor is engaging and the dialog throughout the book is cleverly written. The contrast between Odd’s honesty and purity and the evil he often faces was dramatically defined. Odd Thomas is an impressive introduction to a remarkable character and well worth the read. Odd's character is so palpable, I never wanted the book to end!

Another great story from Koontz. Well written and plotted. Characters are alive and vivid to the imagination. Their pain and joys can be felt as you read. Language is moderate. Recommend.

  Another Koontz Masterpiece!

If you are not already a fan of Dean Koontz, you will be soon. His books are thoughtful, well constructed, intelligent, with likable characters and unexpected twists.

Odd Thomas is no exception. Probably one of his most likable characters to date, and that is saying a lot. Although I enjoyed the book from the beginning, I don't think I became emotionally invested until somewhere in the middle. It creeps up on you. Then all of a sudden you find yourself scared that something bad will happen to Odd, or to one of his friends.

I can't really comment too much on this book without giving something away, which I abhor doing. Once again Koontz takes us out of the mainstream, and makes up his own rules along the way. Read it for yourself, but make sure you have the other 2 books ready to jump into when you are done.

Dean Koontz gives us a real spin on the "I see ghosts". It is a story that keeps you glued to the book til the end. I couldn't put it down!! My husband also loved it. From finish to end, a wonderfully written story. It has suspense, drama, and love all wrapped in it's pages.
This book is highly recommended to all.

This book was like new, still had dust jacket and no problems with pages or binding. Excellent story in the Odd Thomas series ( so far three ), easy to form an emotional attachment to Odd. Very intriging character with such a child like quality that you can not help but love. I am anxiously waiting for book four, I hope soon!!!!

Dean Koontz put out another classic. If you are a Koontz fan you will LOVE this book. We originally got the paperback and loved it so much we decided to get the hardback. It is no wonder that Koontz followed this with two more Odd books. This is the kind of book that you can not put down. While shipping did take a little longer, it is well worth the wait. If you do your shopping you will get one in near perfect condition like I did.

Reading this book is a must if you are a Koontz fan.

Without doubt Dean is my No 1 choice when looking for books, I just wish he could write a book a week, Then I wouldnt have to keep waiting for the next one to come out. Im not going to go into details about the book as if you are like me, I prefer to not know anything untill I start reading about it in the book, I have read every one of his books so far and I love them all.
So as you can probably guess from what I wrote above, I highly Recomend this book.

Forever Odd follows this book and Brother Odd will soon be coming to a book shop near you.

This book was great, one of his best. A page turner from beginning to end... although I really think that "Sole Survivor" and "False Memory" were his best books, and "Intensity" was by far the best movie adaptation from one of his books, this one also rates high up on my list. Recommended!

Dean Koontz has done it again with Odd Thomas. I rank this book right up there with Watchers and Lighting. If you are the type that likes to solve the mystery as your reading a book then this one is for you. Koontz takes you on a unique journey through the mind and life of Odd with twist and turns that will seam to blindside you. These twist and turns make the book hard to put down. The end of the book will give you pause for thought and reflection of the lifes we live.

The Shipping was fast. But the product was not as described. The seller said it was in fair shape but the seller did not say that the book looks as though something heavy was left on top of it to long and is permanently dented in the middle of the book on the back. But you are still able to read the entire book.

The book Odd Thomas, and the series by Dean Koontz featuring Odd Thomas as our hero, is my favorite series period. I love the dialog both from Odd's mouth, and the comentary in his head. Elvis makes an appearences (as a ghost) to make things complete.

I was looking for a fun book to read & a friend recommended me the Odd series, so I bought it. I started reading it since the first day I got it & couldn't stop reading the book. I have never ever been so into reading a book, but it was so good that I read it in two days. The story was great, I'm in love with Odd Thomas, can't get enough of him. Now I'm waiting for the second book to arrive.

This is one of the best characters in the Dean Koontz collection. The book mixed a coming disaster with a sense of humor and even tradegy. I loved this book and have since read Forever Odd and Brother Odd. I don't quite think the other two were are compelling as the first, but they were still very good. I have now ordered Odd Hours and hope that it lives up to the first.

  My favorite book by Koontz!
Review created: 07/02/08

I love Dean Koontz. Oh, yes, I do. Until this book Watchers had been my favorite of all of his books. This story, though, has one of the most likable characters to ever grace the pages of a book.

You won't just like Odd, you will fall in love with him. The plot is gripping and strange. It pulls you in and keeps you in suspense and shows a whole Odd World where there are many twists and turns. The characters who surround Odd are all engaging in their own way.

Odd is...well Odd. He has a strange life. He can see the dead. They don't talk but they do communicate with him. He helps them if he can in between his job as a fry chef, chilling with Elvis, or spending time with his soul mate, Stormy.

Odd and Stormy are so sweet together, and their love is pure. They are meant to be together...after all they have matching birth marks and a card from a fortune teller to prove it. The romance of Odd and Stormy is a subplot in this book, but sweeter than most romance novels.

Definitely follow Koontz through this intense journey of love, suspense, strangeness & mystery. This novel does not disappoint.

I have continued this series. I found Forever Odd to be a disappointment, and Brother Odd to be much better than Forever Odd, yet still lacking the initial charm of Odd Thomas. I've not yet read Odd Hours, but will write a review when I do. Even without the other books in the series, Odd Thomas will delight, and is a good standalone book. Be warned, however, you will fall in love with him and you will have to read on.

Odd Thomas: Not Odd at All.
Review created: 06/07/08

As a rabid fan of Dean Koontz (I actually read his books more than once)I was very pleased to read this one. The snappy reparte and amazing relationships in this book are almost L. Ron Hubbard-ish in their perfection, but manage to stay realistic throughout. Well, unless you count seeing the dead as unrealistic. I enjoyed the book immensly, as well as the books that follow in the series. Get hooked on Odd, and you will only be sorry when you stay up all night up reading it! And of course, you will go into withdrawels after you finish it.
