The Odd Couple - An American Classic

This is an adaptation of a play that comes off very well as a movie. The two stars, Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, play their roles to perfection. The supporting players, John Fiedler, Herb Edelman, Larry Haines, David Sheiner, Carole Shelley and Monica Evans all had memorable lines in the script.
What was interesting was that my kids recognized the women's voices from Walt Disney's Robin Hood (Ms. Shelley as Lady Cluck and Ms. Evans as Maid Marian), as well as John Fiedler's Piglet voice from Winnie the Pooh. Also interesting was some of the expressions and idioms the women used from their native England. Expressions such as "baches" for bachelor's, the "lift" for elevator, "solicitor" for lawyer, "telly" for television, and of course, "nature's own" for what we sometimes call our "birthday suit".
An excellent movie, which led to an equally enjoyable television series starring Tony Randall and Jack Klugman. In fact, my teenage daughter enjoyed the movie so much that she's curious about how much of it was adapted into the TV series.
What's funny too is that everybody has their favorite lines or scenes. My sister liked the part when Felix made the noises to clear his sinuses and when he cried "My back! Oh my back!" after Murray and the others broke down the door. My wife particularly enjoyed Oscar's "Mureeeeeee!" after Murray barked "I'm sorry, I'll KILL myself, okay!" after Felix arrived at the apartment.
There are many other lines and scenes we enjoyed, too numerous to mention. Another reason we thoroughly enjoyed "The Odd Couple" and happily recommend it for purchase.
